Not to bore everyone, but finally there was some sunshine here today and I had a chance to take some pictures, i.e.,
bond with my diamond =)
and of course I had to share
One of the things I liked about this stone when I first saw it on the GOG website was the little culet. I realize now that it adds a dimension to the light return, which was unexpected & is fun.

So beautiful!!! I love that tiny culet, gives it a special look  Love the fire shots! What a great performing stone :appl:

Great pics!
How did y get to load so many photos in the one post? I only get to post 4.

Really beautiful stone!

What's your setting plan?

Beautiful diamond.

Actually the culet is long, not small.
Asschers have a culet that's a point not a line.

Since your diamond's length and width are not the same I'd call it an emerald cut, not an asscher.
It is very close to asscher squareness, but IMO an emerald cut.

I doubt if there is an official L vs. W spec for the asscher cut, such as length and width are within 1%, 2%, 5%? …
Please correct me if I'm wrong, with an authoritative credible link.

Still, a stunningly stunningly beautiful cut.

EC's have a keel culet. Asschers have points.

Kenny,
It's a square emerald cut with a 1.01 L-W ratio and the culet is 0.09mm. I remember reading a thread about that on PS a while back...vendors refer to them Asschers, even though the GIA cert. says "Square Emerald" [because Asscher is a branded name, GIA can't call them that unless they were cut by the Asscher house??].

Thanks for the thumbs up - I was actually thinking about your photos today when taking mine - I remember you said you took about 300 or so when your [awesome] Octavia arrived =)

Greg - I loaded them from the diamond icon under "insert". It takes longer to download though.

thanks, tyty. After some soul-searching I think a plain setting will work best for me. I change my mind a lot and can use stacking rings to get different looks .

[I started a thread asking people for suggestions & talked to one of the PS recommended designers today. Also, several vendors have said they can make me a custom setting. The bottom line is that I want to be sure it's perfectly designed and executed, and is a hassle-free process].

But, for instance, of the 400+ "asschers" carried by JA, 99-100% are square EC, some with keels, some with points.
So are we talking semantics, or is there a standard? I know that Asschers cut by Asscher are the only true Asschers, and all others are actually ECs.

There is no real enforced standard and it has been misused for so long that its accepted to misuse it.
Technically asschers have points or square open culet and emerald cuts have keels or rectangular open culet.
GIA calls em both square emerald cuts if they are near square(they also use some other names for some configurations but that is another discussion).

now for the million dollar question.
Does it make your heart sing?

thanks, artdecolover.

I've been thinking about this thread for a few days. I love my diamond - it is exactly what I've been looking for, so it's very exciting that I found it.
Still, I wish I could have had 24 hours of just having fun posting the photos instead of immediately being "educated" rather than congratulated. It doesn't make me love my stone any less, but the negative vibes are a downer. I wasn't asking for advice, the diamond is already purchased, I know an Asscher is a SEC, so what's the point?

awww hugs, I totally get it! That's PS for you lol. Maybe posting in the SMTB section is better?! It can be so intimidating for me to post any photos here because sometimes I just want ++++ and I get nervous.

Congrats again on the stone, I am excited for you

You're great!
thanks very much - all better now.

I tried to move the original post to SMTB right after I did it, but it didn't get moved.
Good to know for next time that I really want to post happy photos there first!

Hi jimmianne, :wavey: :wavey:

a few questions for you...who is this diamond for? you?
who's opinions matter the most?
there are some semantics/ technicalities but does it matter?
this forum is full of ppl with knowledge and experience with varying opinions on things. In rocky talk - they impart knowledge to you, you take or leave it.

You are wearing the diamond for yourself. it is nice to get compliments. there will be some that may not agree with you but so be it.
negativity, schmegativity... bah! you can use that negativity as a learning experience with your diamond... it is a SEC or an EC. it has a beautiful keel/ culet. The colour is what you have been looking for, the size that you are after...the search has been exciting and

the most important thing is that YOU Love the diamond!

If you dont like the diamond after all the negative vibes and it is getting you down ... return it within the return period, if possible; and search again!

Greg, you are a sweetheart =)

No probs.. Now get onto setting it already!!!

Mine has a tiny open culet, too, Jimmianne! I wonder if they were cut by the same cutter? Regardless, yours is beautiful!

Jimmianne, that diamond is gorgeous!! And such great pics  I can't wait to see this set and on your finger! (and I'm sure you feel the same way lol)

ds, It would be fun if they were! I love the little culet. It was one of the characteristics that really "made" the diamond for me.

Off to the post office to mail the stone to Steven Kirsch :appl:

Sorry to be hijacking your thread here... but I love your idea.. I do.. I've reset my 'average' diamond so many times.. and in the end.. i wish it was in a very simple setting.. I like baskets for MRB's ...again I think your Asscher is stunning... I'm so glad I came here because I learned about OTHER 'cuts' or styles of diamond.. the Asscher is beautiful. :)
