Hey all,
I just wanted to share my experience in purchasing a diamond.
When I started my search about two months ago I didn't know where to start. I wanted to educate myself, but didn't know where I could get unbiased information. I had discovered some books and bought three. One of which was by Fred Cuellar, an expert in the diamond bus, but from the reviews of the book I ready, not necessarily unbiased. I didn't read a whole lot of any of the books, but what I did read was somewhat useful. Most of my info I got from Pricescope and online. If you are entering the process of diamond purchase I strongly suggest you don't buy any books. Don't waste the money. The problem with books is that the info was written at least a year ago if not more. Diamond prices change everyday, as I would imagine trends to as well. The prices in Fred's book were way off based on what I saw (not his prices, but diamond chart prices).
When I started looking for a loose stone two months ago I had never heard of Union Diamond. I was going to go the Blue Nile route as they are bigger and more known. But also more expensive. I didn't trust online retailers and when a friend told me he had bought his diamond from Union I was skeptical. But after doing some research and finding good reviews and a clean BBB report, my trust in them started to grow.
I ended up buying from Union Diamond and could not be more pleased with the final result. I received my stone today and it is beautiful. Leah Cawley over there at Union was my rep and she held my hand the entire way. They provided ASET and IS images and she acted as my eyes since I could not see the stone. When I had to decide between two stones she walked them around and got opinions from all of her colleagues. The customer support over there is top-notch.
Finally, the people here were immensely helpful and I thank all of you that supported me and gave me good advice. I could not have made an informed decision without your help. Thank you so much. I will post photos of the ring once it's all finished.
