Hey Everyone,

First off, I would like to thank you guys for all your help and responses to a couple of threads that I have posted. I am truly a newbie who is trying to get educated before I upgrade my engagement ring. But before I order a ring that I really like online, I have a couple of questions for those of you have bought rings online.

I am pretty sure that I am going to go with Whiteflash. Here are my questions:

1. Once you received your new diamond, how did you service it? I am concerned that since I don't have a Whiteflash in St. Louis, I don't know who I would take my diamond to for 6 month inspections and cleanings.

2. What would I do if I was to accidentally chip, damage my diamond, or if the diamond fell out (God forbid). Who would I take my ring too? Does Whiteflash handle repairs?

3. Would Whiteflash send the diamond I want to an appraiser in St, Louis, so that I could see the diamond before I bought it?

Thanks in Advance!

I got my diamond at WF and I have a local jeweler who services my ring, tightens prongs, checks melee, cleans it, etc..and they do it all for free. Of course they probably want me to buy something there and maybe someday I will, but they are just great for the basic stuff.

That said, WF does do stuff like that and they also do repairs, you have to send your ring to them though and not everyone is into doing that, some will just find a local jeweler like I have to do the basic stuff and then use WF for the larger repairs, aka if a melee falls out or something. In terms of stone chips and all that, if the stone is insured separately (or the ring actually as well), then the insurance would handle that.

I have not had a problem with buying my stones online or in another state and then having them serviced locally, sometimes it is a pain to send the ring away or whatever to have something done to it, but it's really just about your level of comfortability, if you have a local jeweler you trust to make modifications or changes or fixes then you won't have to send your ring off etc.

Important to note that WF's ring warranties are voided if another jeweler touches the setting aka to even tighten the prongs...some may not care about that but for others it may be important.

Yes WF will send the diamond to an approved independent appraiser in SL for you to view it before purchasing.

thanks mara!

I was kind of concerned about this too (I bought mine from Winfields online) but we go to a mall store where my husband likes to make spur of the moment purchases for me so I''m really thinking that since he''s such a good client of theirs and I have so many other pieces that I take for inspections that they will inspect it for me and if anything needs to be done I''ll kind of decide from there what to do. I don''t think I''d leave my ring with them (I''ve left my other things there and no problems but this ring I''d like to be a little picky with who does the work on it) but for anything like inspections I think they are fine with that. Do you have any type of local jeweler you have any other jewelry inspected by? I''d suggest taking it there if you trust them. Good luck on your purchase. Although I didn''t use WF, I hear nothing but great things about them. I''m sure you won''t be disappointed!

Upon this same topic. Does anyone know what happens to people over sea. If you buy a diamond and pay custom charges and VAT to the UK, if you had to send it back for a major repair would you be charged VAT etc. again? Obviously if you are you would not send it to the USA for the repair. I know I could ask the Inland Revenue this and would if it was something I needed to know, just wondering if anyone already knows about this?
