A diamond fell out of my eternity band ...

... for the second time in less than a year. ;( I searched everywhere, but couldn't find it, even though I know it fell out in the house (it's an 8 pt RB). I had my cleaning lady coming an hour after I noticed it was gone, so I asked her not to empty the vacuum so I can look in the canister tomorrow & see if it turned up in there.

I'm just so bummed, because now I'm going to have to send it back to WF again, and buy another stone. If I need to keep doing this twice a year for as long as I have the ring, it's going to get old really fast.

Have any of you guys had such bad luck with your shared-prong eternity rings? I only put in on before I leave the house, so I'm not hard on it. I never wear it to do housework. I just don't understand. Maybe the ring is poorly made - when I received the original ring, it had bent prongs & was too large, so I sent it back to WF. When I got the ring back it looked perfect, but 3 months later a stone fell out. Now 9 months later another stone fell out. I can't believe that this would happen with light wear - what are your experiences with your eternity rings?

On a better note, today was my birthday, and DH gave me a cash amount to be used for jewelry. Now I have enough "jewelry credits" saved for the BGD platinum 6-prong Tiffany solitaire that I've been wanted to reset my RB in. I'm just waiting for my fingers to shrink back a bit after pregnancy/summertime so I know what size to order. I'm thinking about having him make me a matching knife-edge band to wear with the solitaire for every day, and just wear the eternity on special occasions. That would stick, though, because I really love the look of the solitaire with the shared-prong band. :((

First off Happy Birthday!
I am sorry you have lost a diamond. I have lost 2... 20 pointers in my house somewhere... they went missing a few months back and I looked and looked for them but never found them. It was very disheartening, but thankfully they were not terribly expensive to replace.

I hope you have better luck than I had! knock on wood for you!

I've had my shared prong for at least five years and have never lost a stone. I wear it 24/7 even wearing it during housework (though I take it off for any of the harsh chemicals most of the time).

How long have you had it?

It's your second time losing a stone and considering you only wear it going away from home, I think I would be peeved. It sounds defective to me. Maybe you should contact them and see if they'll make a new one/fix it for free or something. This does not sound like your fault in my opinion.

Vespergirl, I'm sorry that happened! I just wanted to say Happy Birthday and I can't wait to see pictures of your reset.

Happy birthday! Congratulations with the cash present!

Hi Hera,

Is your ring platinum or gold? My friend has a white gold eternity that she wears all the time, and she's never lost a stone either.

I've only had the band for a year - I got it last June, then lost a stone in September, and now again in August. Since I sent the original back to WF when it came brand new with bent prongs (I have no idea how that ring passed QC), I wonder if there is a structural defect in the ring since they fixed it.

I need to contact them on Monday about fixing the ring.

Happy Birthday Vesper! I'm so sorry about the lost stone. That would bum me out too, especially since it's the 2nd time with a fairly new ring. Can't wait to see your re-set though!

Happy Birthday to you and how exciting for you to be able to get your new setting!

I am sorry for the second stone loss. I had an invisible set eternity ring that kept having issues - it was from Bailey, Banks and Biddle. Even though they attempted to fix it several times, the issue kept occurring. The downside to this is that you constantly become afraid of the next problem. I got rid of it and bought the Memoire band which has thankfully given me no problems whatsoever. We can all damage stuff through day to day wear but it really shouldn't repeatedly keep happening. Would WF consider casting another ring to reset the stones in? Maybe that would be the better fix rather than continually resetting stones.

Good luck - I know you are bummed but good luck! I'm sure they will come up with a good ending to the story.

vesper- That is definitely super annoying!! I've had my platinum shared prong (2 pointers, though) for over 4 years now and never lost a stone. They still seem super secure. It is from signed pieces though; they seem to have a pretty good record for not losing stones.

Happy Birthday though :appl: :appl:

Vesper, I recently lost a stone from my eternity, but it was right after I had some work done on it, so I suspect the jeweler loosened the setting. The jeweler replaced it at no charge. The jeweler told me not to put it in the ultrasonic. I was annoyed because I have heard that a well-made ring will not loosen in an US, but the jeweler said that shared prong eternities are not much different than micropave rings in terms of durability. I stopped putting it in the US and just soak it now.

BONUS...I found the diamond a few WEEKS later! Don't give up on finding it. I spotted a tiny sparkle underneath the baseboard in our bathroom. I would wait a few weeks before you send it back if you think a replacement stone will be expensive. Does WF not cover the lost stone?

I am much more paranoid about my eternity now, which is unfortunate, but I figure that replacing lost stones is not very expensive (they are only 1.75 pointers). I hope it all works out for you!

Bummer...

Happy birthday! Sorry you lost a stone, it is worse luck that you can't find it. I hope it turns up in the hoover bag.

My diamonds for eternity spat a stone in the ultrasonic right by the setting. I must say that I was shocked but in fairness to WF they took it back & set a new stone at their cost. I felt that the position of the stone that fell out precluded question of my fault and they sorted me out.

I have since worn it about 6 or so times in about 2 years possibly 3 so I don't know if it would have lost any more with 'regular use'. BTW your ring is much larger than mine - my one is the standard pointers whatever that is - something like 1.2 tcw, size 6.75.

This is her the day I sent her back....

What have WF said about this latest development? Have you contacted them yet?

BTW part 2: I have reset my stone into their tiffany plat repro and got the matching band too. It looks great and it is sturdy, classic and sooooo comfy. I imagine the BGD would be even better. But my 0.02 is the knife edge by Tiffany & Co is much dantier IRL than the WF setting and will not match so you should 'buy the set' from BGD if you want the set look. Also most eternity bandsI have tried, scuff the setting head so you 'will' need a spacer; hence why I have not worn my eternity much - I won't scuff my setting.

Hi Hera,

It is in white gold and the maker is Ritani.
I don't know how that ring passed qc either. I hope you get the issue remedied soon.

Shared prongs are not very secure at all. Only two prongs hold each stone. Platinum prongs are soft and bend easily. Channel, bead, or pave set are much more secure.

Happy bday!

Oh no! That really stinks! I'm hoping to get an eternity band one day in the future, but I work with my hands quite a bit, so now I'm kind of rethinking it.

vesper, I'm so sorry that this happened to you again. I think you should have a serious talk with the folks at WF and tell them how much this bothers you. Hopefully, at this point, they'll offer to do the right thing and make you a new ring. There's got to be something wrong with your mounting. I know women who do literally everything wearing their eternity bands and they never lose stones.

I'm going to be very interested in hearing what WF has to say and how they choose to resolve this for you, because a lot of us have WF shared prong bands and it not only matters to us, but to all the ladies considering a WF shared prong band for their wedding rings.

Hi Vesper! Did you find your missing stone? I remember you receiving your initial ring with the bent prongs and it wouldn't suprise me if there is a non visible defect that is causing the stones to come loose. I would be super annoyed to have lost 2 stones in one year. :x
Happy belated birthday!

That stinks, Vesper! I'm sorry you lost another stone.

I've never lost a stone from either of my rings. I've been wearing my engagement ring for three years now, it's a platinum shared prong eternity band with 5 pointers, and my wedding band is a platinum shared prong eternity band with 7 pointers. I'm pretty hard on my rings, so if I haven't lost any you really shouldn't be losing any! I did crack two stones, but I know exactly how I did it and I banged them really hard. My jeweler replaced them at no cost, of course, they do that for all melee that needs replacing.

I agree that it's time to raise a stink!

That is a bummer Vespergirl! I am so sorry!!! I have had my ring for 2 years and have not ever lost a stone. Of course, now that
I have said that, I will. Mine was from Signed Pieces as well.

I hope you get it resolved and never lose another.

I wore my shared prong eternity ring for 5 years and almost never took it off. I never lost a single stone.

I hope WF fixes it for free!

Vesper, I'm sorry to hear of this. When you're ready, just get in touch with Vera and she'll be happy to work it through with you.

Thanks Allison! I spoke to Vera this morning, so I'll be sending the ring back today. As always, she was super nice & helpful. Hopefully we can figure this out!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to post an update.

WF is being awesome about the whole thing - they are paying for the ring shipping & also replacing the lost stone for free. They also noticed a chipped diamond in the band, and said that it didn't have to be replaced, but if I wanted to replace it, that was the only thing they would charge me for. I thought that was more than fair, so they are now fixing the ring & will send it back to me when it's done.

I'm really impressed with WF's customer service (thanks Vera!).

Hi Vesper,
I see that the issue has been fixed and I'm really happy for you! Happy b'day and I'm so stoked to see pics of your reset once you get it done.
If I had seen this in time I would have just added that I don't have an eternity band per se but the band on my e-ring is eternity and it is from WF and I've had it for about 3 years and I have never lost a stone. I don't wear it for hard work or anything either and put it on first thing in the morning and then take it off before bed.
Anyway, I hope that helps and I hope your fixed eternity is gorgeous and I hope you find that missing stone!

Hello Vespergirl,

Thank you for your kind words. It is always a treat for me to be of assistance. You're welcome. We look forward to getting your lovely ring back on your finger!!

Warmest regards to all,

Vera

Vespergirl - I'm so sorry this has happened to you twice but I'm glad to see that it's getting resolved easily.

I just wanted to chime in to add my shared prong experience to the collective PS knowledge base. Similar to Hera Anderson, I wear mine 24/7 and it has worn well - so it is possible! I've had a shared prong WB for 6+ years - size 6, 0.86 tcw, 2mm wide (not sure how many stones), platinum. I lost one stone just outside the first month in 2004, the vendor (Tiffany) replaced it for free as a courtesy, and since then I've never lost a stone -knock on wood - and I don't take my ring off for anything, and I mean ANYTHING - cleaning, sunscreen, gardening, weightlifting, sleeping, hiking, dog wrestling, ocean/pool swimming, etc. A few times I've taken it off while riding some unruly horses, but more times I've left it on while riding (hunter/jumpers - for better or worse, blister-wise). I would say I'm hard on it but it has held up for now. Anyway - I hope this is the last of your shared prong troubles and the next many years are trouble free.
