Steel: Yep- talking with my sis would be a good idea, but I don''t know how to approach it. "Would you be upset if I got another dress?" I can imagine her reaction- oy! But maybe that answers my question for me, you know?
MakingTheGrade: The more I think about it, the more I feel like you did with your wedding bands-- I''m just over the details of the whole thing and trying to focus on the bigger picture. I think I can disassociate the dress with the "situation" more and more each day.
Katamari: Your words were so sweet! Thank you-- and trust me, I can be a vindictive little you-know-what
I think I really restrained myself and tried to be super-duper-civil/level headed because I''d be foolish to let it ruin my whole wedding-planning experiences. I had two good cries over the dress: The day I found out about legal action and the day I tried on the Allure gown that looks like my dress... It was a "why is this happening to ME?" self pity moment. I wallowed for a while, build the bridge, and you know the rest. I had to, or it would eat me alive. Thanks for the BABC tip!! They''ll be in Denver in late August- I checked out the website and may actually volunteer to assist with the gown sales
Octavia: Thanks again for the well wishes. It WILL work out for the best, I''m certain!
Kitty: Hmm... nope. I have a green T-shirt and am making a frowny fact next to my FI. I''m a Rachael... The last name is quite Hungarian and looks like it''d be tough to pronounce... (But really, it rhymes with ''books'') I''m going to Anna Be this Thursday to check out what little merch. is left after the week-long sample sale.
Miscka: My parents were super sweet to offer- unbelievably so! Time will tell if I''m over the ''ordeal''... Still keeping a semi-open mind about getting a new dress. As you suggested, looking around doesn''t hurt. I''ll probably be surprised at what I find.
Packrat: Sound advice
LaLa: I''m thinking *exactly* what you''re thinkng-- If I check out a sample sale or two and don''t find anything I like more than the current dress, then I know for-sure that I need to gear up and get over the bad memories, because the dress is meant to be... And then I''ll put a whole lot of faith in my seamstress
If I find a sample that I go crazy over, and if it isn''t very expensive, then I''ll do a quick weighing of pros/cons and make a decision.
TyTy: Yeah. The dress isn''t "bad" by any means. In fact, at some point I said, "I love this dress" and once it fits correctly, maybe I''ll return to that place. I think my parent''s offer was based on feeling bad about all the problems related to the gown, and knowing that a "better version" of my dress exists. (If you aren''t familiar with my dress saga
don''t worry- it''s a long story...but it ended with finding out that "my" dress is made by another designer- and it is constructed far better than the dress I have was constructed) But these problems can be fixed by a gifted seamstress/tailor. I''m sure there''s a dress I could love more than the one I currently have, but unless I find that gown for under $500 then I''m pretty certain it isn''t worth it.
Thanks again, everyone, for all the feedback and input!! I''m still going to check out one sample sale, and then call it a day. My dress is supposed to be altered in about one month, so my parents are mailing it to where I currently live. What i''d *really* like to do is order my bridesmaid dresses in Ivory and wear THAT as my wedding gown, because I''m seriously in love with the style
Instead I''ll settle for watching my five gorgeous bridesmaids rock it out
I''m sort of realizing that if my parents hadn''t offered, I would have been fine with the dress I have, once it was made to fit correctly... Even though, in the back of my mind, I know there''s probably something "better" out there. After my parents dangled the bait, however, I started to reconsider. What I''m currently trying to keep in mind is that there is ALWAYS something better... I mean, I''d prefer a dress embellished with diamonds and pearls over a dress embellished with swarovski crystals and swarovski beads, but that doesn''t mean the latter is imperfect or unsuitable. Maybe I should walk down the isle naked?
