I''ve been looking for a teal colored stone for awhile now, and when I saw this rough I immediately contacted Gene. He originally said that he could get a 6 mm stone, but that wasn''t quite big enough for the project I had in mind. So I thought that this rough just wasn''t meant for me. Then this weekend I get an email that he decided to cut one of the stones to make a 7.5 mm. YAY So without further ado.

Stats

Weight- 2.26 cts.
Size- 7.5 mm
Treatments- none, unheated
Color- 9
Clarity-9
Brilliance- 5
Total Rating- 9.3

Love it, I wonder how much of that stone he has.

That one has good colour for an asscher cut stone and for being unheated too.

So pretty....

The cut and color combo is def a winner... I am starting to develop a hunger for a neon blue-green tourm!

OK, ladies and gentlemen, take a number and get in an orderly line behind ME!

Gorgeous stone, pretty color and excellent cut. Does it glow?

I am wondering along with art nouveau if it glows? That is not what I would consider a paraiba or a paraiba-like stone. It doesn''t have the criteria of a paraiba or paraiba-like stone with the neon or electric color or the glow. I don''t mean to downplay the stone..it is a fabulous color and a killer stone. It may be cuprian but the copper chromophores are not really imparting that good neon or glow to be able to use the trade name paraiba. Still a nice stone

I think this is the color that every aqua wants to be!! LOL!! Don''t get me wrong, aquas are nice stones, but rarely are they ever this blue or blue/green without the grey component.

Very pretty!

Wow, it''s gorgeous!

Ryon, brandy_z28, tourmaline_lover, icekid, cinnamon013, mochi, Fly Girl, D&T, Charmy, marcyc, loriken, LtlFirecracker, Chrono, Freke, sleepyspinel, Art Nouveau, amethystguy, ma re, and loving gems, thank you so much for all of your compliments! I''m really excited to receive this stone. And I promise to post lots of pics when I do.

Art Nouveau- since I have not seen the stone in person, I can''t tell you if it glows or not. I''ll let you know when I get it though!

amethystguy- I was only giving the description that I was provided. I don''t really care what the stone is called as long as it is the color that I am looking for.

Wow.

Amethyst guy,
Isn’t the new “ruling” on African Paraiba-like tourmaline today after the law suit that as long as the African tourmaline is blue, blue green, green blue and has copper content, it can be called as such? I know in the past it had to have the glow and I agree that the glow should be one of the requirements for deserving that name.

That is just GORGEOUS!!!!! That seals it . . . I have to have a Gene Asscher someday!!!!!

The LMAC ruled that mozambique tourmaline bearing copper can be called paraiba or paraiba-like. That is a general term and it''s up to the dealers and vendors and sellers to be able to use that term appropriately when needed. It is a deceptive practice to flagrantly use the term paraiba when the stone does not meet the certain criteria. People know what paraiba or a "paraiba-like" like stone is. The name imparts a higher cost and prestige to the stone. With that reasoning, chrono, than any tourmaline bearing copper can be called paraiba. That means 10,s of thousands upon thousands of stones can be called paraiba. Many many tourmalines have copper content in ppb(parts per billion). The real deal paraiba from Brazil has copper in ppb. Tourmaline found in madagascar has copper in ppb! Can you call that paraiba? No..I have never heard of any paraiba''s coming out of madagascar. Paraiba is the name of a state in Brazil where those fantastic stones came from(came from= past tense). Paraiba the name refers to the glow or neon qualities. It does not refer to the location. Can you call any tourmalines from paraiba brazil, paraiba? No, either they don''t have copper in them or the copper they do have does not impart the qualities to be called paraiba. Look at the color of that stone and then cruise around the net for afghan tourmaline cut stones. That color comes out of afganistan all day long. Can you call those afghan stones paraiba? The color is the same. No..since there is no copper chromophores then it doesn''t impart those qualities then it''s not paraiba. Just remember you can''t call any copper bearing tourmaline paraiba..maybe cuprian tourmaline but not paraiba..go to pala gems website and you can see what a paraiba looks like..or go to ebay and you can see how paraiba the term is used so flagrantly. It''s a hotly debated subject. The problem is folks use the term to increase the price of there stones to the unwary or uninformed public( I am not reffering to you redfaerythinker..you are not trying to sell your stone for a super inflated price).

I think it''s stunning.
