UC undergrad tuition is about 6,400k a year now.

Ahh, so that $15K number includes housing, food, etc?

We live in a prime area of Manhattan. Real estate prices are insane. Our coop is now worth close to 3 million dollars.

We bought it 25 years ago and could have bought the whole building for what our apartment is now worth.

I cannot do the math but, according to these guidelines, I would like to know how much I can spend for a ring and a car because I must upgrade at once.
And what happens when real estate values go down, which I am sure they will? Do I have to downgrade?

My daughter (who will be graduating in June) and I have done a bunch of campus tours in the last 6-9 months, including both UCLA and UC Berkeley. They said that the cost is really more like $20K a year, which includes tuition, dorms, meals, and books. Of course, compared to the other schools she is applying to (MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Princeton) which are $45K a year, the UC schools are cheap!
