I''ve been considering having my bridesmaids wear chocolate brown. It''s not necessarily one of my "colors" for the decor, but I think I can tie it in nicely and make my bridesmaids happy with a wearable color.

So, my question!

My fiance will be wearing navy pants (very very dark navy since I always thought they were black until he told me they were navy) and a white jacket (navy uniform). With brown bridesmaids, what should the groomsmen wear? black tuxes? brown tuxes? Do people wear brown tuxes? Does chocolate look okay with guys in black? I was thinking of giving the guys ties in one of the colors - peachy or champagne or something... haven''t gotten that far yet since I''m jsut wondering what color tux they should wear.

It''s an evening wedding, and with my fiance wearing the fancy pants uniform, I think the guys probably have to wear tuxes as well. What do you think?

I only like chocolate brown suits for men if it''s more of an espresso, and if the wedding is more casual. For formal I would go with black tuxes personally.

I''m not a huge fan of chocolate BM dresses since a lot of them seem to be kind of desaturated. If you want to go brown I would encourage you to do more of a darker espresso color.

But peach and black and brown is a lot together IMO. Could you have your BM''s wear black instead? That''d be easier than trying to match the men''s suits to chocolate/brown dresses.

I love black dresses for other people''s weddings, so that is a good suggestion, but I am anti-black for mine:)

When I say chocolate, I think I mean more of a expresso as you said. I''m thinking a dark rich brown in an interesting material.

I agree with you - I like black tuxes. I just wasn''t sure if there was some sort of unwritten rule about mixing black tuxes with brown dresses.

I wouldn''t ask my bridesmaids to spend this much, but here''s an idea of the type of dress color I was picturing for them.

That''s really nice! I like that one a lot. I''ve noticed that many brides say "chocolate" and then get kind of a poopy brown color, yuck. But a dark rich chocolate like that will look great IMO even with black tuxes. I''m not usually a huge fan of mixing black and brown, but if the brown is really rich and the black are tuxes I think it''s fine.

My bridesmaids dresses

Hi Guilty Pleasure! My bridesmaids wore chocolate brown - I have the link above and I totally understand your concern. Our guys wore black suits and looked just darling with the brown bridesmaids ;)

I was in a wedding a month before mine and we also wore chocolate brown and the guys wore brown tuxes - which amazingly were not as bad as I thought! BUT I still think black tuxes are classic and would prob recommend sticking with black, I mean there is a reason when you think tux you think black.

I am wearing a brown BM dress for my friend''s wedding next fall. It is one of her colors and we ended up getting this dress from Watters. The brown it comes in isn''t as dark as we had wanted (we too were going for espresso) but it is something I would still wear again, maybe without the ribbon belt. We are doing ribbon belts in apple and white or ivory (for me, as MOH depending on what color the bride''s gown is).

We liked the Jenny Yoo stuff too and even made an appointment with Bella Bridesmaids to try some of her stuff on but we didn''t realize until the day of the appointment that the particular location we were going to visit didn''t carry her line. I love the dress you linked! If we had a bigger budget for our dresses (ceiling was $200) then we might have tried on more high end stuff. The dress we settled on can be found online for $150.

Do all of your BMs wear brown on a regular basis? I ask because I don''t have anything brown in my closet because the color (all but the very coolest milk chocolate-y browns) make me look like I''m ready for the morgue. With my coloring, I just can''t pull it off.

Having said that, I think that Jenny Yoo dress is gorgeous.

What are your wedding colors?

if you''re set on espresso, i totally agree that black tuxes can look amazing next to them. trying to match the brown''s is a super sticky situation. i know it''s the hot color right now, but i''ve had 2 friends go thru hell with the matching issues. both were very disappointed in the end. it''s not my favorite color...and brown tuxes just don''t cut it IMO. good luck!!!!

I just got married and my BM wore chocolate/expresso dresses and I put the men in the dark brown tuxes as well to match.

Here is a link to part of my wedding photos. Scroll down the link to see pics of the bridesmaids and groomsmen together in the dark brown and down near the end you can see us during the ceremony.

Alot of people who went to the wedding couldnt even tell that the men were not wearing black and we received many compliments on their tuxes.

I also heard from my tux guy that brown tuxes are going to be all the rage in 2009 and tons of manufacturers are coming out with multiple brown tux lines so getting then and matching them should be alot easier then it has been in the past.

I have also seen the brown BMS dresses with the black tuxes and thought that looked fine as well, though DH and I preferred the dark brown for our wedding.

I think both peach and champagne would go with either color (black or brown). My grandmother had a peachy colored dress on you can see how that contrasts against the brown of my sister's dress.

i looked this weekend for photos I had from a wedding with brown dressed bridesmaids and black tuxed men...give me a few more days, I will probably be able to find them, or get them from someone so you can see what they look like...
