Advice for setting/ insuring an antique stone in Toronto?

Hello all!

I'm in need of some advice. My fiance propsed with a beautiful antique stone (a gorgeous, high clarity/color OEC), and we're eager to find it a home. I have a very simple setting in mind: yellow gold band, with a white gold or platinum 8 prong head. Does anyone have any trusted jewelers to suggest in the GTA who might be a good choice to set the stone? Also, should we insure it before setting, or does it make more sense to insure the finished ring?

Thanks so much for any thoughts!

Use perfect circle to insure the stone and then extend it to when the ring is done.

Some Options
1. http://www.cynthiafindlay.com if you want an authentic vintage setting
2. http://www.phdesign.ca (Downtown) for custom work
3. http://www.engagediamonds.com (Don Mills and Sheppard) for custom work. Engage Studio has one bad review on yelp but that person obviously doesn't know what they are talking about comparing high quality rings to people's. Their prices are good.
4. http://www.leifbenner.com (Distillery District) for custom work

Are you comfortable going to the US or buying from a US vendor?

Thanks so much, Charmypoo. That's super helpful! I want something very simple and specific, so I think custom will end up the way to go rather than trying to find an antique. My fiance and felt very good about our consultation with Evelyn at Engage Diamonds.

Thanks again for your advice!
