Hi guys,

I'm a newbie to this...so if there's info I may have missed...please bear with me.

I've been looking around for a 2ct blue untreated sapphire for the last few weeks and came across two which were high recommended by the dealer.

I'm leaning toward the one of the left of the pics attached as I'm after a stone that's more square. Both of the stones have been certified by EGL are prices wise are both in the $2k range.

Which one do you think is better? Any help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

I prefer the squarer cushion. The proportions are much more pleasing to my eye. The color seems to be "better" in the rectangle, but it could be due to the lighting/picture.

I would see if the vendor can find you the color of the rectangle in the square cushion shape. :D

Do you have better pictures of the sapphires? They look very fuzzy and the entire picture is tinted blue which makes it almost impossible to guess the true colour. Better yet, anything on the hand?

Secondly, are you sure the lab is EGL? If so, EGL isn't particularly recommended for coloured gemstones. AGL is top notch followed by GIA in the US.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for your responses!

I manage to get some pics of the squarer stone on hand from the dealer. Please let me know what you think. Thanks!

Specs of the stone as follow:

Weight: 2.06 ct
Size: 7.06 x 6.97 x 4.83 mm
Colour: Vivid Blue

Who says its vivid blue? The reason I ask is that it doesn't appear so from the photos. Does the vendor have a lab report or some other objective source that calls it vivid? I'm not trying to be difficult, its just that terms like that are thrown around so loosely by some folks that I want to make sure you're getting what you want and what they represent it as.

It's a pretty stone but not what I would consider vivid. What are YOU looking for? Is the tone right for you? It looks to be a light to medium light toned stone. How is the colour shift indoors?

Those pics are really weak. How could any online vendor sell stones in that price range with THOSE pics. Horrible!!! Or, are you just showing us the pics of stones you have seen in person?

If forced to pick which stone is the better of the two, the elongated cushion looks to be more saturated at least to me. But these pics are so poor!

Hi guys,

To be honest, I haven't seen any of the stones in person. Have been relying on pics from the vendor's website plus the ones which I've requested from him. I'm actually based in London, UK so if you guys know of any good vendors here...please feel free to let me know!

I'm definitely after a stone that's of a darker colour than the ones pictured ie. Vivid to Royal Blue. However on a budget of around $2.5 to $3k, I'm not sure if it's possible to purchase an unheated natural stone of that quality and size. Should I be looking at heated stones instead? If so, what sort of prices are we talking about here?

Thanks!

I really would not buy neither.
In this shade and tone there are several out there.

If you decide to buy not heat / untreated sapphires...

Look for very clean clarity and good cuts.

Many no heats to my opinion come dull and cloudy like.

That seller is comparing with no flash used in the photo show so its good and honest.

I still suggest a video of some sort as direct comparison.

my best advise, keep looking & you will do better.
