Advice on making a blue sapphire setting

I don’t see any rubies in the pictures you’ve posted, all of those would class as pink sapphire to me. White sapphire will be much less fiery than diamond, but if that’s not an issue then they’ll be fine. Maybe look into moissanite too? It’s pretty hard and very fiery.

Personally, if your budget won't stretch to natural diamonds, I'd do lab grown. A blue sapphire ring with a white diamond halo is a classic. I also like how sapphires and diamonds look against each other, they bring out the best in each other!

I was planning to take it to the jeweller when I got the side stones ready.

Today I went to a gem dealer, on their website the H Si natural 1.8 mm stones were listed as about $300/carat but when I arrived they were asking more like $1200/carat. So the naturals were coming up a bit too expensive.

So in my budget I could go for.

#1 lab vs diamonds
#2 white sapphires
#3 pink sapphires
#4 rubies

I attached a photo of the pink sapphires and ruby.

I wondered what you guys take on those options were for a halo with that central sapphire in platinum? Does a coloured halo look weird and are white sapphires any good?

Just be cognizant of the ruby quality (and they can undergo heavy treatments, if that matters to you). That being said, I'd love the look of either red or pink with your center stone! You may be able to find better quality (likely heated) pink sapphires though. White sapphires are a nice route as well, if you want something natural, but colorless, and the diamonds are too pricey. Naturally, the LGDs are going to give you infinitely more sparkle than the corundum.

Thanks everyone for all your advice.

In the end I put lab vvs diamonds in (since they were only like $50 instead of $400) with platinum with a ceylon sapphire (there is a little white inclusion on the side but she doesn't notice it).

Her old ring size was about a US 6 but she wanted it to be more comfortable and less of a struggle to take off so I went with a us 7. The ring won't come off by itself but it like rotates around her finger so i think I might need to size it down a bit.

The important thing is that she loves it. Hopefully it looks reasonable for the $700 ish budget. Not the best photo but here we go!

Next I need to order a stone for one of her 18 ct yellow gold (with a diamond halo) where the centre stone fell out. She wanted something in a bright pink/red color. I'm thinking rubies are super expensive so maybe a pink sapphire or a spinel?

Maybe instead of resizing you can get some of those silicone spiral sizers? They are comfortable to wear and not permanent and she can remove them as needed if her finger swells or what have you… they are like $10 on Amazon.

It looks gorgeous on her hand!

I was considering this stone for her ring where the central stone fell out. Would this be a ruby or a pink sapphire and is a chip on the crown a big deal?il_1140xN.4050297254_d8kr.webpil_794xN.4097948673_e5ii.webpil_794xN.4097947611_5r1d.webp

It looks fantastic! Great job, grandson!! :appl: I like @Dreamer_D's idea of a temporary ring sizer. But if she wants to go the permanent route, she likely needed a 6.5.

With regard to the replacement stone, regardless of quality, I would avoid anything with a chip on the crown. Good luck!
