Dear PSers,
After more than a month of going back and forth, I think I am pretty firm on what I am going to buy, and have started looking for different settings options for a 2c round H/VS2 diamond.

This is one area what I haven't researched at all, and hoping to get some good directions as always from the community here. With that said, can you guys point to some of the settings which you either have or personally prefer for such a diamond ?

(I am not going to tell where I am getting the diamond from until I finalize the setting ;) )

As always, thanks for all the invaluable guidance and assistance !

Do you have a diamond picked out? If so, put it on hold! Then tell us where so we can look through settings for you. :D

Are you looking at a solitaire? Pave? Personally for a stone that size, i like 6 prong settings, SO beautiful!

eta: if you're not sure about what type of setting, tell us about her and we can help out on that end as well.

Here's my 2.23 OEC in an 8 prong "Olivia" solitaire by CVB.

@soxfan : Thats beautiful. Thanks for sharing the pic!

@farrahlyn : She is 34, and its for our 9th anniversary, which fortunately is today. Since she doesn't know much about my plans, anything I give her, I am pretty sure, she will take it lol. I am leaning towards pave, low profile but as I said earlier, I am waiting for the gut feeling from your all to see what the lean is, and from there I would do elimination. If I like a setting and it is not available, I will buy it separately and get it shipped. Names later ;)

Have you looked at the emilya halo from Victor Canera? It's my FAVORITE pave halo.

well happy anniversary!

The WF setting tyty posted is one of my favorite, absolutely gorgeous, very classy. for a 6 prong, i love the Vatche Swan setting, it's a beautiful solitaire and there is also a pave version which is SO blingy. Maybe a bit over the top but i love it!

Also, for something very different, this is stunning

as you can tell, my style leans a bit more toward unique and different (i have an EW set marquise after all) although i can and do appreciate a classic solitaire.

What style of jewelry does she usually wear? That might give us some indication of what style she might prefer. And you want to get a setting that fits her life. Pave is beautiful, but you need to be more careful with it because those small stones can come loose or pop out. Some people who get pave end up not wearing their rings everyday because of that. Really thin bands are also beautiful but often can't take as much wear. So bear all of that in mind. She might like whatever you pick out, but you also want her to love it and wear it. That's more likely to happen if you get a setting that blends well with her taste and lifestyle, whatever those happen to be.

Settings are so personal. Is she a Halo girl, a solitare girl or somebody who would want something really unique? Does she wear lots of flashy jewelry or is she more understated and classic in her jewelry choices. If she is not an open book and you are not sure of her preference maybe you need to do some digging. It's all well and good asking people on here but none of us know her and we are all so different in what we would prefer even down to 4 vs 6 or 8 prongs or basket vs no basket, pave vs no pave, rose gold vs platinum the choices go on and on and on.

She doesn't wear flashy. I know she won't like anything with high profile (she is careless, so I would be cautious to get something like that). I have been thinking of something like this, but a bit low profile -

I liked Vatche setting also shared earlier -

I hope that gives some ideas around what kind I am looking for.

I'm not sure if by careless you mean she might leave the ring somewhere accidentally or if you mean klutzy. If you mean klutzy, I can help because I'm a klutz. That first setting is pretty but the basket sits up really high and the diamond and the head are more likely to get knocked against things or catch on something. I'd steer clear of that one. The Vatche doesn't sit up as high and is a nicer design, but it does sit up more than some settings. If it were for me knowing that I can be a bit clumsy, I wouldn't want anything underneath the basket that makes the basket sit up higher than it otherwise would. And I'd have them set the diamond low in whatever setting it was going into. That plus having the cathedral setting (the parts that flow up to the middle of the basket) will help minimize how much the diamond gets knocked around.

Lol its the latter. She would appreciate it for a week, and forget that she is wearing it the week after. She probably never takes off her current ring from what I recall. I will check some cathedral settings tonight.
