Ladies, I need your expertise. What are your views on the Roberto Coin 'cento' diamond. I have an opportunity to acquire a 7 stone ring at an excellent (indeed, almost shocking) price in the exact setting I wanted my 7 stone in.

The cut is a branded, 100 facet cut, which I know is not everybody's fave. The stones were incredibly firey although a little busy. I don't think that would bother me, personally, and I like all the fire. Attached is the 'scope' view.

Anyway, I don't really know much about the company (Roberto Coin that is). Is it as reputable as its fancy shmancy website seems to suggest? Do any of you own any of his pieces?

Basically, I'm looking for any advice, information, views, things to consider, etc. before I make a decision. It may be a great price on something I've been longing for for AGES in the exact setting I want, but it's still not free.

Here's the setting. I love the little secret ruby. And the u-prongs go fab-o with the Bulgari Beast.

Roberto Coin is v. upscale (fancy schmancy is just the right descriptor, I think): they sell his stuff in Saks, Bergdorf, etc., and he's quite reputable. And in the relative size of the band, I think the firey quality of the Cento cut should be set off to advantage nicely ... do you have any pics of the specific ring (or the specific ring alongside your band)?

Thanks Circe! The one they had in stock was about a size 7 and I'm a size 4, so Roberto Coin would have to make one custom for me... which they said they would be obliged to give me for the same price. Yay! But even then it would be returnable for a full refund. With no time limit

! So what I might do, if others are also positive about the brand, is order it, take pics of it in my right size next to The Beast, and then see what you folks (not to mention me and DH!) think. Risk free!

I have to talk it over with DH too, although I'm pretty sure he'll be excited too. I've been yearning for a 7 stone and we couldn't afford it. This is less expensive than the equivalent in materials and stone stats at FACETS even!

I was just looking at some Roberto Coin jewelry (they were in the window of a jeweler). There were some very pretty pieces! I think a 7-stone in a u-prong would look loverly :)

I'd probably take a look at it next to your e-ring first, though, so you can see if you like the 100-facet stones next to yours.

ETA: I just noticed that you have seen it, so I'm assuming you've seen it next to your ring. What did you think??

I just bought earrings and a bangle bracelet from Roberto Coin at Saks. He''s a designer that pays attention to detail, the diamonds he uses are top notch. My earrings, are YG , thin hoop style and have 3 tension set diaminds in them, each. The bangle same style, thin and by the clasp is his signature ruby. This is a new line, so not sure it''s in all the stores yet. I am loving these pieces.

HTH, good luck Indy!!

I only have a little diamond cross by RC, but I have seen his Cento diamond studs and thought they were very pretty! I would not want one of those diamonds for a large stone (such as an e-ring), but I think they would be fine in the kind of ring you are talking about. The quality is good, so if you can get a good price on a designer piece, I say, go for it!!!

I saw Roberto Coin in the Bellagio and all the diamonds sparkled lots. Pretty ring.

Thank you ladies! That all sounds promising.

And DH says it's a go!

The best part is, it's at a store for which we have a ginormous credit note (wedding related). So after the mistaken list price from say, a year ago (we all said 'That can't possibly be right!'), and our double discount, and the credit note... the ring will be FREE!

Mind you, there are other, more practical things we could have saved the credit note for.
