Kenya Ruby 2Kenya RubyGood morning everyone!

Attached are photos, mounted and un- of a 4.2 carat Kenya ruby purchased recenty at a gem show. Several knowledgable gemogolists have studied the stone with microscopes and have verified what the vendor told us, that the ruby is not heated or treated in any way. There are a couple of small scratches on the table of the stone, but other than that, it is rated as SI, eye-clean. While not the deep pigeon-blood red of the Burmese material, I think the color is beautiful, such a clear, bright red. Any comments welcome.

It does look like a pretty red, but hard to tell from just shots with the controlled lighting. I'd be curious to know how it looks on the hand in daylight, incandescent and outside?

You have but to ask. Attached are photos taken in daylight and in incandescent light. In my humble opionion, it's still a beautiful piece.

...and your opinion is the only one that matters, so its great that you love it! It is hard to find unheated rubies of that size, so MaselTov, MaselTov!

I'm no ruby expert, although I've bought a few. I think they are a bit of a pain in the butt, because good ones are hard to find, you never know whats been done to them, their usually opaque. Its hard to figure out how much to pay for them, and how much is too much, etc.

But I dont care if a ruby is purely "pigeon Blood" colored. If its clean, relatively transparent, and is a nice shade of red, then I like it. It doesnt have to look like pigeon blood to excite me. I'd say the color of that ruby in the incandescent light is fantastic. In the daylight photos it looks a bit like a rhodolite garnet, but it looks good nonetheless. But I think it looks better in incandescent light.

But what I like most is its good transparency, and its nice size! You cant beat a nice, mostly clean and clear ruby in sizes over 3.5 cts.

I'd be proud to own it, so if you get sick of it(hopefully real soon), you can just send it to me! :naughty:

I'll keeep you in mind :), but you'/ll probably have a long wait. Thanks for the glowing review! :D

Shanti,
Leslie
