So I have an AGS accredited diamond but the measurements (length, width, depth) numbers on the report are clearly wrong. It says ~6 mm round but it is more like ~4 mm. I think the weight may be correct as it aligns with the actual dimensions. If I went to AGS to report this would they do anything about it? Refund on report, etc. Or should I just work with the vendor on a return?

Definitely call the vendor first. Who caught this mistake, you or the appraiser? Maybe the report was accidentally sent with the wrong diamond or vice versa?

That is crazy though.....is it a reputable seller? If it is from Ebay or something, I would be smelling a definite scam. People on there have been know to sent a legit report with a crap diamond and hope no one will know......scary.

It is from a reputable vendor who I don''t believe I will have any trouble with on a return. I don''t think it is the vendor''s fault. It is like the AGS (000 ideal) report has the right weight but wrong dimensions. Maybe the micrometer (or whatever tool they use) was broken?? Has anyone seen this before?

If it is an AGS 000 round with a diameter of 6mm, then it must be about 0.81 ct.
Correct?

I would get this fixed.
Call the vendor and/or AGS so they can send you a corrected report.
Hopefully they will not want to borrow the stone for this, but who knows?

If you ever need to sell it such an error will make a buyer nervous.

Just like any business, no matter how large, they are bound to make a mistake here and there. Good thing you caught it!
My original e-ring was a 2.11 H/SI2 and the GIA plot on the original GIA report was completely blank, so it looked like an IF, Lol.

I am sure it will be no problem to get a new report issued, the vendor will take care of it.....or even call AGS yourself and see what info they have on your stone.

When I personally called GIA about my 2.11 SI2 with a IF plot, they were more than happy to let me know over the phone that their computer info on my stone showed all the inclusions.

I had to mail them the original report though before they would mail me the correct one back.

Good luck, I am sure it will be resolved in no time!

Occasionally discrepancies are found on reports, its not unheard of. First thing to do is contact the vendor and explain the situation, they will take it from there.

Start out by contacting the vendor, it is possible that you were shipped either the wrong diamond or the wrong lab report... While it is possible that the laboratory made an error, it is ultimately the responsibility of the vendor to ensure that the information indicated on the lab report accurately represents the diamond being offered (by the vendor) for sale.

By definition, the gemological laboratories provide a description of the characteristics of the diamond ''at the time of grading'' and do not ''guarantee'' the accuracy of the stated grade or characteristics of the diamond after the diamond has left the laboratory... While this might seem shocking at first glance, it is probably because the gemological laboratories have no way of ensuring what happens to a diamond (or lab report) after it has left their possession.

Did the vendor have the diamond in their possession at the time the sale occurred? Or was the diamond drop shipped to you from a third party supplier? While errors can occur in either scenario, in my experience they are more likely to occur in the latter when diamonds are being drop shipped by a third party supplier - there was one time when I received a three carat diamond from a diamond cutter who was supposed to ship me a ninety pointer (just under a carat)... I received the diamond and a memorandum made out to another one of their customers, all shipped in a box addressed to me - I called the vendor and said "hey this three carat is beautiful... can I get it for the same price as the ninety pointer that you were ''supposed'' to ship me?"

Would you believe that he said no?

And then he hung up the phone on me in a panic... Called me back five minutes later and sheepishly asked whether I could forward the diamond to the intended client.

I hope this all works out for you, I''m guessing it''s due to a simple mix-up that can be resolved easy enough... Fingers crossed.

I contacted the vendor this am. They emailed me a free fedex return label right away. This should be an easy return.
