AGTA 2014 Winners

Yes, I saw it the other day. Although it is spectacular, I am somewhat surprised that it won as it is so similar to the other Paraiba tourmaline ring of his that won a few years ago.

Thanks, Chrono. I didn't see it.

I was surprised too. I think the other ring was more original for its use of the oxidized metal.

I don't know, that ring definitely did not do it for me. But some of the other jewelry was truly breathtaking. :cheeky:

Thank you for the shout-out, Chrono! :wavey:

I didn't realize that using oxidized metals was so popular with paraibas--I've seen it in Leon's work too. Does anyone have a link to last year's winner?

Paraibas/cuprians are full of fillers these days. Nice job setting it, as I hope Leon doesn't use an ultrasonic cleaner (it would remove the filler). :errrr:

This was the last award winner, and the owner of this ring came on this board requesting a reward for it being found. It went missing on her.

She has a thread with more pics of this ring.

Perhaps the judges have a thing for paraiba and oxidized metal, hence the back to back win.

Well, the oxidized metal really seems to make the stone color pop even more, that's for sure.

Isn't that pretty much the same concept as photographing light toned stones against a dark or black background because it amps up the perceived saturation due to the dark/light contrast?

It makes the overall design look a little more contemporary and edgy, too.
