As regular forumites will know, photographing colour change gemstones is really problematic. Even more so with Alexandrite where it just doesn't ever want to show it's daylight green colour on film! Several years ago I managed, by accident, to take a video of one of my pendants that shows the colour change. Honestly, the colours are still not what I see in real life but this is as near as I'm ever going to get and I have finally managed to upload a video to YouTube!!!!

So, when you watch this video, the daylight colour I "see" is medium green (think forest green) but not too dark. When I move inside I get an amethyst purple with pink flashes.

The sequence of this video is daylight/green moving inside to incandescent/purple and then back outside again. Hope you like it!

wow!!! v distinct colour change! where did you get the stone from? :appl:

I've had all of my Alex for years Tuffy. I can't recall where I got this one from. Glad you like it!

I wish I could replicate this video with some of my others but this was an absolute fluke and I've never been able to do it again since!

Thanks, LD. Great video.

That's a great video, LD, and a very, very pretty setting. I can see why you are such a fan of alexandrite.

Very nice, mine changes like that as well and it is hard to capture!

Thanks for the video LD!! Very cool!

I've been trying to capture it again with one of my other rings but ............ can't photograph ANY green at all but I have managed to truly capture the incandescent colour.

This video goes from daylight by the window, through mixed lighting and to incandescent.

In this one you get a quick flash of green - that''s the green that the whole gem looks in daylight!

Thank you LD, I am truly enjoying your vids. I am always stunned at the difference between what I see when I take photos and what it shows and frankly, I can't comprehend why colors come out so varied and untrue to reality. I wish I knew the reason behind it, because then I would try and correct it...

I love the 100% and quite dramatic change of your stone. To the viewer, it looks like it changes from the magenta/wine color/purple to a lavender/bluish - what is that about?!!! We should start a thread on photos and what we see for real versus what it shows in the photos!

Awesome color change! I have to coax my alexandrites into changing color. They're both Indian material and have a lovely daylight green, but I have to try hard to make the purple come out.

Cool you tube video!! That is quite the dramatic change - very lucky to have caught that on tape! Thanks for sharing :appl:

Very nice videos!

Oh my god what an amazing change! The second one looks stunning in incandescent light, is it from Brazil? They have this raspberry -red color without any brownish hues ...

Very nice video and Alexandrite!

Fantastic!!! Great video!! The first one up top shows the green real well!

This video might drive Alexandrite prices even further northwards.

This looks like an amazing colour change - and the material is not russian? I would love to see how some of that super rare russian stuff compares. I can't imagine the transition nor daylight colour being far superior to this gorgeous thing.

It looks great!
