I love, love LOVE my Alishan rings! They feel perfect, the squareness prevents them from spinning on my chubby finger, and I love the layered platinum to create the deep, deep relief in the bands. I'll add more photos tomorrow taken in natural sunlight to catch some fire... that is IF the sun decides to shine in Cleveland tomorrow!

I dont think I''ve ever seen your rings before...gotta be one of the most unique sets I''ve ever seen and I''d definitely notice your hand in real life! They look quite heavy, are they plat?

I love the relief work...is it hard to keep clean?

It was just over a year ago that I won the semi mount on an eBay auction (well, it was a "buy it now", but it was still heart pounding!). Everyone was holding my hand on PS and giving me the paper bag to hyperventilate in... I''m very happy to have such knowledgeable people willing to help with sound advice and fun posts.

Like little sculptures... yes! I love the architectural quality of them. And the little points in the relief echo the pear''s point, which is a bonus.

They are so unique and beautiful!!! Congratulations!!

Those are some very unique rings.
I really like them!
They look great on you!

Surf, they are indeed plat, and I definately enjoy the heft of them on my finger. Alishan Halabian designs marvelous platinum pieces, including brooches with tahitian pearls and diamonds that make spiders, of all things! But simply stunning. I gotta get one of the spiders next!

So far, they''re easy to clean. I''ve been giving the band a good soak every week, which seems to work. The semi mount is begining to take on that platy patina deep in the relief, which adds to the visual depth of the piece.

Suzy, I liked the way they looked on me, too. I''ve got what my husband calls "giant 5-year-old" hands -- very small, but squatish, with short nail beds. Any of the lighter, more airy designs that use pears (like Mark Morrel''s designs) that I tried on just looked foolsih on my hand. The Gothic I design is the best look for my finger so far, but I think it''s the width of the band, too. The semi mount is 4.5mm wide, and the wedding band is 3mm wide.

Cool!

I really like the squareish shape. I always really enjoy seeing rings that are really out of the ordinary!

Looks like exquisite workmanship!

Congratulations!

(And more pictures, please!!!!)

What an absolutely lovely and unique set of rings. Inspired actually.

As for the sun shining tomorrow...I am from the Cleveland area as well, and I don''t think that the sun is expected anytime soon! We are expecting an arctic blast, though!

Beautifully executed, as well! I''m blown away by how the bench jeweler managed to execute the relief work without even one crumb of burring or any unevenness.

...I find myself praying for sun in Cleveland, suddenly....

Hi Dana! East Side or West Side? I''m in N. Olmsted, so I''m expecting lots of cold prairie winds out here, but little snow.

The sun was out shining brightly yesterday around 2:00 downtown at CSU, so you never know with Cleveland weather!

Mr. Halabian''s master craftsmanship shows in each piece I''ve seen. When I first saw the semi mount on eBay, I thought "Who the heck is this Alishan guy?" After doing some research, I found out he''s won several awards for his work in platinum. I mentioned the spider brooch in a reply above, but you should see how smooth and silky the platinum legs are.

crowmama,

For those of us who do not remember when you got them, what it their story? I understand that you saw them on eBay, but did you already have another wedding set? Is this your original wedding set? How did these become incorporated into your jewelry?

Debora, it''s one of the few eBay stories with a happy ending....

When my darling hubby Mike (who actually has quite refined tastes in spite of being content to wear the same hoodie with a fish on it day after day
20.gif
) proposed, he selected a pear diamond. Something unique (that he hand not see the other girls flashing around) and something that was richer than I would have ever selected for myself (I would have been content with just him asking).

He picked out the pear, and had it set in the most simple, inexpensive 14K setting, with no ornament. He wanted me to choose the setting for myself at a later time. And, despite being on PS for awhile, I really did like the simplicity of it. But the shank started to wear thin, my fingers got fatter as I put on weight, and instead of opting to just have the ring resized and the shank beefed up, I went window shopping for a semi mount. Hated the way halos, thin bands, swirly bands and such looked on my hand. I pestered the heck out of PSers with my eBay searches "Whaddya think of this?" Finally, after thinking that platinum was out of my reach $$$, I did a search for plat semi mount. Whoa. There it was -- the coolest semi mount I''d seen. I did my research on Alishan Halabian, spoke with his wife (Lydia) who works with him to find a dealer, and lucky for me, there was a distributor in the Cleveland area. I looked at his designs (all of them, because window shopping is the last free thing around, LOL!) and absolutely fell in love with his work.

Mike steered me out of the store and said, "Ok, let''s go find a place to get a cheeseburger..." and I said "I need a computer. Now!" The library was around the corner, I hopped on eBay, and CLICK! Bought it with cash via paypal. The autioneer had obtained the Alishan piece (along with some Roberto Coin, Whitney Boin, et.al.) from a brick&mortar that closed due to retirement.

Alishan Halabian created a new basket to hold my pear, and though these photos don''t show it off well, made the most delicate diamond shaped prong to hold the point of my pear. Really well crafted piece.
