I wondered what the price of the mean would be so just for giggles I looked it up.

These two are the closest two diamonds I found in a quick check of: Round, 1.46 G VS2 with excellent cut:

So the average price is $14,423.
Frankly, I'm surprised it was over 10K.
Aren't you?

Great idea Kenny. I would have thought that size was nearer to 10K too.

My center diamond is only .53. I am certainly in a minority but I find it''s just right for me.

the avg PSer''s center stone is $7800.

1.46 ct G VS2 (likely ideal cut) for $7800?

Great job!!! Love the charts!!! Very interesting results!!!

This is very cool. I''m your average pricescoper when it comes to shape (round), color (G), and clarity (VS2) but not in size (.93).

Thanks yssie! I enjoyed reading the thread and your stats are very interesting. I''m an outlier with an I1 clarity, apparently.

Didn't Yssie post it was 1.46 ct G VS2?

Are you talking about all PS visitors, or all who entered their specs into the survey?

He's going to believe me, obviously, I don't tell people that their perfect ct wt is the same as their ring size

Seriously though, the results of something like Gwen proposed - going through the entire Ering thread and tallying everything up - would be very interesting, but goodness that would be a time-intensive venture!

this is my post from 5 yrs ago.

CA and N.Y. 3-4ct is more common

midweast .50 ct

south, they say everything is bigger in Texas.

U.S. avg e-ring size my guess, .75 ct

P.S. member avg e-ring size my guess, 1.25 ct. and growing fast, girls here are BAD influence

I agree with DF, that the PS average of stones sold is less than 1.46G. It''s probably less than 1ct. There have been many .7 to .85ct diamonds sold lately. But the core group that hangs around here is also the upgraders. The survey results might be 1.46ct, but not the average of what''s sold.

thanks for doing this yssie!

Definitely skewed by those who respond. Even though I would agree the PS average is a bit higher than "real life" standard, I think that the sample of respondents is pretty low overall to give an accurate standard of even most PS members! I see so many rings around the 0.5 - 1.25 ct mark on here, I can''t imagine that a response by more people would not bring that average down a bit.

I never responded, as I was not sure how to respond the poll gemstone (not a diamond!)!

Around where I actually LIVE, the average diamond e-ring is more like 0.25 to 0.5ct.

Yssie - very interesting! Thanks for putting all the work in.

Cheers, everyone!

This was never supposed to be an absolute statement on the average of the millions of people who have visited and posted on PS in its lifetime, or the thousands currently posting; the results are skewed by a multitude of factors. It's just a bit of fun

bump-- just wondering if anyone's done a survey like this recently on PS. I would be curious to see the results. :)

Although before my time, I would be very curious to see how things have changed in 5 years...

I would love to see current results too!

Yeah I think a new poll is in order :)
