Am I being too pushy?

he has very explicitly told me NO WEDDING MAGAZINES until I get the ring. But the second I get it, I'm going to go buy like 20 so I hope he realizes what he's in for!

Too funny! I actually imposed the same rule FOR MYSELF. What only *I* know is that I've spent two different Saturday afternoons in the Barnes & Noble cafe with a big ol' Starbucks latte on one side, a stack of Bridal **** on the other -- reading my little hopeful heart out. I'm so self-concious though I hold a home type magazine in front of the Bridal ones. (Small town! I'd die if someone saw me) I'm just not the girly/bridal type at all. I'm so suprised at myself!

ETA: Apparently I draw a small but subtle distinction between BUYING bridal mags & READING them. :)

Hahaha that''s a great distinction Deco! And yeah, I had no idea I would care this much either. My boyfriend''s always telling me how surprised he is that I''ve gotten this girly.

As for self-imposed restrictions...I put some bridal books in my CART on the knot, but I can''t actually hit BUY until I get engaged.

And yeah Amber, I totally felt like my brother was ruining all my fun

...neither of us had said anything to the other about it, but I''d been ring shopping with my boyfriend for a while and he had already bought my setting (but not stone) when my brother called with that news out of the blue! He''s 5 years older than me and they''ve been together FOREVER - if they wanted to get married, couldn''t they have done it earlier, or at least waited until after me??

Hehe yes, I know that''s being petty but whatever!! Also it sucks because both of us are getting married at our old family summer home, so we can hardly demand all of our relatives to come to the SAME place for TWO weddings in one year! ARGH!

Oh, I have NO shame. I just make sure I have a little ring on my ring finger, so they don''t think I''m pathetic buying these 10 pound tomes of dresses. Can I ask everyone, what aspect of these magazines (even if you don''t buy them or read them) do you most look for? I''m usually slightly looking at the dresses (not so much because I know what I like already- can you say corset??) but mostly at the favors and bouquets. The cakes, too. And of course, RINGS. The tuxes I couldn''t care less about. Is that wrong?

I completely agree with you, Albi- my brother was like, Hey Everyone! We''re going across the world to get married! Come celebrate with us! And I''m like, jerk. Like anyone is going to want to go to ours on a friggin'' boat the month before when they have to shell out thousands and take vacation time for his wedding. I am petty. I know.

I too am a member of the "Wedding Planner with no Ring" club!

I have a binder with all sorts of ideas about it and a budget. It helps me to know what I am in for with money along with having fun picking things out! Hey- I''m paying for most of this things since he''s got the ring and honeymoon so why not plan ahead? My favorite parts of the magazine include hairstyles of brides, dresses, reception/decoration ideas, and b-maid gowns. I too have no interest in the tux, unless he tries to wear 70''s ruffles with a large collar or something!

Living in L.A. it sucks having to try to plan on a budget! I''m doing the same thing, paying for it all myself minus the ring and the honeymoon. If Paul tried to sport the ruffles, he''d have one coming to him. I also forgot the hairstyles- veil, no veil. Tiara? Not for me- big head. :)

Don''t worry, I''ve already started planning my wedding and I''m not engaged yet (boy-soon is most probable, ya know how it is
20.gif
) and I certainly don''t (unlike some of you
2.gif
) have a wedding date yet.

I''ve narrowed my dress selection to five dresses and am looking for the perfect bridesmaid''s dress for my sister and my bestfriend. I''m struggling with my colours though, and I really hope our parents won''t insist on sending the invitations themselves because we''ll have a gazillion guests at the wedding and I don''t want our wedding to be a big family reunion where I don''t even know most of the people... You know, where they all go "My goodness you''ve grown!" and "Don''t you remember me? I last saw you when you where this big!". We both have big families... I want my wedding to be a small intimate ceremony with the people we care about the most. Plus, I don''t want to go bankrupt.

That said, I wouldn''t want my older brother or twin sister to get married the same year as me. There could be a chance if my brother keeps the girlfriend he''s got at the moment. If. The five previous ones never got past 20 months (I''m at 26, haha!)... But my sister, she''s a loner. Single and happy with it. Doesn''t plan on getting married ever. She is going to be my MoH though, and she won''t get out of this one!

I''m so glad to know I''m not the only wedding-obsessed girl out there!

Cheers!

ROFLMAO!!!! That has to be the funniest phrase I have ever heard. Deco, you crack me up.

I agree with you, Anchor. I can just imagine my mom saying, "Well, she's MY great aunt on my Step-Dad's side" What? If I haven't seen them at all since I've been with the guy I hope to marry, sorry, no Chicken Piccata for you. I would go try on gowns, but my SO thinks I'm taking it a little too far. Hey, his sister is the one who is planning what her daughter is going to wear as the flower girl. So it's catching!! I have a question, we have 3 little boys under 5, and two little girls under 10 in the family. How do you decide who does what? I don't want to leave some of the kids out! I don't have a MoH, because I have no girl friends! I'm closer to his sister than I am my family. Is it wrong to only have his sister standing beside me? I'm thinking too much. I just want the ring. THEN we can talk.
