Amethyst corner

Like others said, amethysts do come in a variety of colors. That one is pretty -- it reminds me of lilac flowers.

That said, amethyst does fade. Different stones fade at different rates (I think this varies by origin), so for some the fading isn't drastic, but for others it is.

Thank you
i do love lilics

Perhaps the original owner wore it a lot through the day
The ozone is thin here

Maybe I'll get it sized and wear it anyway and eventually replace the stone

Kunzite can start off a shade of purple and then fade fairly quickly to pink when exposed to sunlight. They say to only wear it after dark!

i love to see amethyst getting the love it deserves

I may have just gone in a totally different amethyst direction! I still love this by the vendor never answered me!

I wanted to mention... I know there was some talk earlier of amethyst fading, which is true. But it takes prolonged exposure to intense sunlight or heat. So for anyone concerned, I wouldn't worry. Also, Uruguayan material (my favorite) is very resistant to this. Anyway, carry on!

Uh-oh! I live in a subtropical climate! How intense is intense heat?

First, I'm jealous.

Second, over 300C... so you're good!

I wish it were always autumn here, my friend!!

you good people are so hardy surviving real winters, down here we would all die due to lack of real winter clothes
but you must be seeing the first of the spring flowers ? as after two awful hot months where nobody could sleep and working in a bakery was torture we have autumn here the last two days
, and although we do get some autumn colours without the real cold in winter our autumn tones are not nearly as nice as i am used to growing up further south

one day i will post my amathyst ring again as i always thought it was somewhat faded

My new amethysts are here. I bought them from Jeff Davies. I am glad I know tilt windows are unavoidable because these have tilt windows at a very slight tilt, which I gather is due to the low RI of amethyst. The bigger one is for a pendant and while I was going to use the smaller one for a ring, I think I may hang the bigger one from the smaller one for the pendant. There is a lot of fire in the bigger stone especially. It was hard to capture.
So how did I do?

And some video. Jeff has a great return policy so please critique away. If you think I can find large amethysts with fire and less of a tilt window, please do say. 20250311_132940_1.gif20250311_133544_1.gif

I really love that lozenge-shaped one!

Yay!!!! I have not even captured the sparks of pinkish lavender well enough. It is very hard to take pictures of gems I am finding. Also it is giant at 31.43 cts, 24.7mm x 15.2 mm! The vendor pictures made the stones look very similar. They seem less so in person. I will have to post those. 20250311_152308.jpg

OK, I will stop bombarding you all with pictures, but please indulge one more. Look at the stones under LED light at nighttime! I am definitely putting them together in a pendant. Maybe with sapphire melee that is purple-pink to match those color flashes?20250312_011228.jpg

The lozenge one for sure is begging to be a pendant, and I'd love to see them together! FYI - I bought my Uruguayan amethyst from Jeff Davies too. =)2

the colour on my screen is so beautiful

Thank you for the kind words for the stones! It's a confidence booster for me. I knew it was a good sign when I kept wanting to look at them all day. I hope Jeff cuts some more natural stones soon. He has a lot of lab stones, but I don't think I will ever be one who goes in that direction.
I will contact David Klass for the setting. I am also thinking rose gold for this project, even though I love platinum.
