I was a bit hesitant to introduce my ring here, as I was not sure whether it would be appropriate with a vintage ring. However, on the other hand, such a unique piece needs it stage lights.
Dated back 1910, it is not only vintage but actually deserves a right to be called antique, as it is over 100 years old by now. It was originally purchased in St.Petersburg, Russia, so this is a real imperial piece. It is a family heirloom. Originally this ring was purchased by my great-great- grandfather for this wife as a maternity present for the birth of the their son. My mother used to wear it a lot when she was younger, but it has spent quite a few years in the jewellery box before it came to me.
The history of the ring was, unfortunately, very visible at the point when I was lucky to become it's proud owner. I would call it's condition desolate. The ring have not probably seen the jeweller's bench for the last 50 years. The shank was broken, the ring was so dirty that I could not see the colour of gold it is made of, several of the rubies fell out, the milgrain and engravings were just partially visible.
However, I felt that it was a question of honour to get the ring restored. In the end I would really love to pass it on to my daughter someday. So the quest begun. After doing some research in the internet, I asked several jewellers working with anqitue pieces for theire quotes for this kind of work. I have decided upon one and had to trust him being able to recover this ring.
The ring was sent with the courier to another city, where the cutter was able to find a ruby with a similar colour and custom-cut several rubies to replace the losses. Also by this time we have seen that one of the rubies was replaced with a round stone, so we took it out as well and replaced with a tapered baguette as it was in original. The ring was fixed, the milgrain restored and after more than two month she came back to me. Now I have a chance to introduce you the imperial beauty.
This ring has 6 antique diamonds circled with the calibré set rubies. The stones total appr. 1,3-1,4 ctw in diamonds. The diamonds are quite warm, but they play like crazy in the different lights. Being rather inspectacular in the sunny daylight, the stone really wake up once the lights are dimmed or it is cloudy. Weirdly they perform beautifully in the electric lights of the office as well.
