Andalusite Ring

This forum has been an amazingly useful resource for us. Thanks, everyone! Here's a new ring that, encouraged by all the info here, we recently had made.

The stone is an andalusite, 1.98 cts., 7.5mm modified Portuguese round. We bought it from Gemfix and we were very happy with their service. The ring is a custom design by Russell Larman, the house jeweler at The Gem Gallery in Berkeley, CA. It's 18K yellow gold with a satin finish. We're thrilled with how it turned out!

Andalusite is hard to capture in photos... every time the angle or lighting changes, the pattern of yellow/gold/green/red changes. Of course, that's also what makes it so appealing. It's also a softer stone, but Russel created a full bezel to help protect it on the occasions it's worn.

The stone is very mysterious and the setting incredibly well made. At a glance, it looks like one of a dozen regular bezels but on closer inspection, the symmetry, finish and other fine details are very well done.

E 2986---andalusite also reminds me of the different colors of autumn leaves. I have an oval that I am trying to find a ring setting for that has a leaf motif.

Oh wow. I was looking at the andalusites on gemfix. It's exquisite!
