Hi All,

Last time I was on here was 10 years ago :) It's now my 10 year anniversary and in the market for buying an anniversary band. The engagement ring I bought was a 1 carat round solitaire Tiffany/Cartier style platinum ring. I went to a jeweler today and the ring I'm interested in is the "channel bead setting" (so none of the diamonds are "covered"). Here the pricing:

FINGER to FINGER .50 Carat Round Diamonds

12 x 0.04 diamonds round
Platinum = $1500
14K White Gold = $1050

9 x .06 diamonds round
Platinum = $1950
14K White Gold = $1350

Questions:
1. Would 0.04 and 0.06 visually make a big difference?
2. Will the nine 0.06 diamonds over power the solitaire?
3. Is the EXTRA $$ for plat worth it? My Budget was around $1000 +/-
4. Will the channel bead setting hurt the brilliance?
5. Of the options above, what would you guys get?

Thanks!

Do you have pics to share? or links?
What is your ring size?

Some prefer to keep platinum w platinum, but I have a plat ering and wear it with a WG band - no harm so far!
I would prefer more finger width coverage and not risk overwhelming the solitaire, so I'd be inclined to go with the 12 x.04's.

Personally I would be inclined to go with the larger stones (but I like more bling).

Unless you're likely to upgrade, I'd go with the bigger ones now.

- Its a size 8 ...
- The jeweler was nice enough to do two WG castings and show me what the .04 and .06 will look like against the e-ring.

With the 12 x .04 there 3.5mm more diamonds (about 2 diamonds more) but the .06 will still be a "finger to finger."

I don't have pictures because the rings don't actually exist. They will be custom made. But I'm not obligated to buy them if I don't like them.

Im a bit bummed I didn't go with the platinum like the past rings (e-ring, wedding ring) but I couldn't justify the extra $600. Even in the long run, if she has to go every 6 months to get them rhodium dipped it still cheaper.

The jeweler did say, if I want to move to Plat in the future, I can.

The fears are:
1. The stones are yellow (tho he says other wise)
2. The stones are better color than the Solitaire (J VS2 Blue Florescent)
3. The .06 overpowers the Solitaire

I'm such a wuss :)

I think the fear issues #1 and #2 should be clarified on the order form. And I do think you should call and change it to platinum. Those metals are two different colors and one will turn slightly gray with wear and the other yellow. Do it right the first time because it will cost more than $600 to change it later, I can almost guarantee. I think 6 pointers are fine but that will make a fairly wide beadset ring. Will she be wearing this as her wedding band?
