This in: after several years of marriage, Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe have decided to separate, a rep for the actors announced on Monday.

The timing of the announcement is very interesting!!

Most of the celebrity weeklies in the U.S. close the magazines on Monday [ today ] -- which is the same day they make make their "comment calls".

We suspect the couple''s rep announced the split as a preemptive strike against what will come out in the mags later this week.

Lets just say ... we had been hearing very loud chatter about Ryan''s behavior in Texas, where he''s been shooting a new film.

And, another one bites the dust!

Of course, who knows why they are separating (if it's true). But I just thought their union would last.

Then again, I thought Tom and Nicole were forever. Let's hope Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson last...they're my other "ideal" Hollywood couple.

She is one of my most favorite actresses.
Unlike the rest of hollywood- I found her to be pretty normal and fairly grounded.
This makes me so sad!

I also agree with FG, I always thought they were not the typical *hollywood* couple. But I did wonder how her high profile impacted their marriage. Especially given the fact that they are both actors. It''s sad to hear the news.

that''s soooo sad...there have been rumors about them in the mags about her career way outstripping his and it must be hard to be mr reese etc and then an article last year talked about them doing counseling, but none of the rumors ever came to fruition so i was hoping that all of them were wrong, guess not. seriously what celeb marriage lasts anymore?! i can count on one hand maybe.

Oh, this is so sad. I adore Reese, she''s one of the most normal-seeming people in Hollywood. Her hubby was kinda odd though, never smiling in pics and such. She gives off the impression of being a regular gal, but Ryan seems a little more Hollywood to me.

I''m not 100% surprised this happened though...they got married so young and live in such a pressure-cooker environment.

I really liked her in that.

I just read an article about him that he was interviewed for, I think it was in Rolling Stone, and he is a bit of a wild man (self-admitted). He smokes weed and enjoys drinking quite a bit. I was surprised( I know that''s stupid on my part) because they both just seem so wholesome.

They got married young, she was pregnant. I have heard rumors of this for a couple of years...sad, but not surprising. Seems like all these marriages are biting the dust lately! Really just a sad commentary...Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward and Alan and Arlene Alda are two that have lasted, other than that, hard to say!
