I came across this stone and bought it for fun. The ad says it's natural (from Madagascar), and maybe it is, but I suspect it's just a synthetic. I paid $12.50 so I don't care much. I've spent more on a shot of tequila :naughty:

As long as it's not too dark and ugly in person, I think what I'll do is buy a generic solitare pendant setting for it and have it set at the local jeweler I plan on using for my e-ring setting. If they mess this one up, I won't care and I'll know they shouldn't be trusted with the real stone I actually like :)

Just figured I would share!

Great idea to "test" the jeweler first!

For $12.50 I suspect synthetic too.

Agree. But it could get expensive if you test a lot of jewelers out.

There's just one I'm interested in. The rest are all Jared/Kays/Hannoush and the like. Either way, I think it looks cool :D

Probably real but an inky sapphire. The tweezers look shiny white, a sign of really strong lighting. I do like your idea of seeing the workmanship of the setter but when it comes to sapphires, they are generally easy to set (durable and tough) and this has the added bonus of really good symmetry.

Wouldn't it be great if it turned out to be the deal of a lifetime?!!

I can always just pretend it's real. Ignorance is bliss :D
