Dear PSers,

Another custom Etsy ring to report here

I saw this design and fell for it immediately. To my imagination, there is something Russian to this design... like the headdress of a traditional Russian costume. And being Russian, I love that :)

But since I already have an ering (and can't afford to spend that much on a ring right now anyway) I asked the seller if she could make me a version in silver, and with my stones. Patti was very friendly and said that she could, but after the holidays.

In the meantime I started searching for a set of stones. I don't have many round stones (not my fave shape), and (as I found out) I'm not very open to various color combinations. But in the end, with plenty of luck, I came up with three red-pink spinels that I liked. They were smaller than the stones in the prototype ring, but Patti said that wouldn't be a problem.

I sent the stones to Patti in mid-January, and she was really great with updating me on the process. She sent me a pic of the mold and estimated dates for casting. She was done ahead of schedule, and I got the ring today.

I LOOOOOOVE it :-D

And now, the pics!!

ooh, wow, that is super pretty!!!! and what a nice match for all 3 stones! I love it - i've looked at her designs before and have bookmarked her as a designer i'd love to work with someday.

Very unique! I can see your inspiration reflected in the design. Really cool ring Gemfever! :appl:

looks lovely on your finger!

As another fan of traditional aristocratic Russian costume, I do see the inspiration in that ring. It's lovely.

Funky ring, and I love the colour of those stones!

Thanks for the compliments ::)

kt: I really enjoyed the experience. And in silver, it was very affordable. If you get something, please post!

Enerchi: Thanks!

MozieZombie: I like it on my finger too, especially how it feels. It's so comfortable. I love "casual" rings, and this one is definitely "cute casual" :))

TL: Thanks! I think this was the aristocratic style in the earlier centuries. In the 18th-19th centuries, after Peter the Great, the aristocrats all looked European, while rich merchants looked like the pics we both posted. I definitely prefer the lavish merchant culture. Lots of rings, one or two per finger, please

NKOTB: Thanks! The color is awesome, and I'm glad I found a way to use the smallish stones in a ring that I will definitely wear a lot.

It is great to hear of your good experience given your last one wasn't as successful. I absolutely love the color of the stones - do you have a thread on them or photos of them before they were set? Impressive that you had those gorgeous stones...

Thanks Minous!

I have a mini-thread on the center stone. It had a weird inclusion in the back and I asked about it:

The little ones (2mm) I got from yvonneraley on Etsy (I asked her to find me some to match). I think she had some in her inventory and I was lucky that the colors matched so well

Not only I'm so happy for you that you had an awesome experience, but the setting is super unique. It gives the stones an extra oomph! Wow, what a great way to get inspiration from an era gone past. Love those Russian head-dresses although I suspect they might have been quite hefty?

Thanks Chrono! I'm sure those headdresses were quite hefty... as much as I like looking at pictures of them, I'd never want to wear one ::)

HI:

Very pretty!

cheers--Sharon

Yes, Peter the Great was the one that took away traditional Russian costume and Westernized it. It was common before Peter the Great. Did you ever see Eisenstein's "Ivan the Terrible" - lots of authentic Russian costume in that film. I believe it was also brought back after PtG, as many in the royal circle would wear it at times.

 I haven't seen it... yet. I must. Thanks for the tip!

I love that ring! I'd never heard of that Etsy seller before - those swirly designs are so pretty! Like a casual version of Adzia rings.

That is a very cool ring, and a terrific set of spinels! Great choices!

Lovely!

Now, this cries out for a matching set of earrings, no?

distracts: Thank you!

chloe: Thanks :)

tntyau: What a good idea! :D Though realistically, who knows when I'll come across spinels to match. Someday though, someday! I'm definitely going to order from Patti again. Now gathering stones (and spare cash) :cheeky:

GemFever it's just lovely. Very unusual and the stones just glow...I'm pleased you had such a good experience with this setting.

Your ring turned out lovely! I love the color of the stones!

Thank you Starzin and tyty! I think this little ring is going to join my group of "constant-wear" rings :praise:

Beautiful and very unusual!
