Greetings!!! Another newbie,

Before I give the almost obligatory cry for help I have to say this is a truly amazing forum you guys have created. I suspect that long after I have got my ring ill still me spending an inordinate amount of time here as there''s so much knowledge to be gleaned from reading the posts.

I am planning on proposing to my GF soon (as soon as I have the ring) and I know she wants a “large” stone so I’m looking for something in the 1.7 to 2.0 carat range.

I’ve had a look online and these are the stones that I’ve picked out and need some guidance as to whether these “hit the spot”.

These are the diamonds I’ve looked at

Your thoughts on these or suggestions for other stones would be most helpful (sorry there are so many)

What kind of budget and specs are you looking for?

The BGD looks good.

1st JA stone, not enough information.
The other 2, no good.

Excel stone, table on the large side, 1st one maybe, probably not. 2nd stone, maybe also but large table is a minus for me. Request for Idealscope image and see.

Thanks for getting back to me Stone-cold11, im after a 1.7 to 2.0 carat stone with a decent cut and that is eye clean with no visible colour. I have attached the report on the first JA stone and have requested the Idealscope image for teh Excel stones.

So a large table doesnt suggest a a "large" stone?

Thanks for your help.

Budget is roughly 13000

no, a large table, table being the big facet on the top of the diamond, does not equal a large stone. A large diameter means the physical face up size of the diamond will be large. A table by itself does not say anything as it is given as a percentage of the diameter. For example the 62% table stone, with a thick girdle only has a diameter of around 8mm, a well proportioned stone should have around a 8.1-8.2mm diameter.

So anything you could recommend?

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-1040381680009 This one looks excellent.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Good-Cut-Round-Diamond-1282108.asp Has potential from the report but the table is pushing it in my opinion for size....An Idealscope image will tell us more. stonecold is right, a larger table might give the illusion of a diamond being a little larger than it is but it actually makes no real difference, size is measured on the outside edge or diameter.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-SI1-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1284338.asp I would pass on this one personally as leakage can be seen in the loupe image.

http://www.jamesallen.com/diamonds/I-VS2-Premium-Cut-Round-Diamond-1279183.asp The pavilion angle is too steep on this one and colour entrapment is a real possibility in I colour, this is undesirable in white diamonds as it can make a stone show more tint.

http://www.exceldiamonds.com/Loose_Round_Diamond-143/Loose_Round_1.84_Carat_I_Color_SI1_Clarity_diamond-373275.html Again a too steep pavilion angle especially for this colour grade.

http://www.exceldiamonds.com/Loose_Round_Diamond-143/Loose_Round_2_Carat_I_Color_SI1_Clarity_diamond-451429.html The table is again large but the angles could be effective, an Idealscope image would tell us more.

Lets take a look...

For a 2c, try this? Ask JA if it is eye-clean and request an idealscope image if interested.

Or, in the H color range, 1,7c and above, these 3 looks interesting. Same as above, ask if eye-clean and request for Idealscope image if interested. Also for the D SI1, ask if the fluor will cause the stone to look hazy/oily in sunlight, small chance of that happening. JA can only do 3 idealscope image at a time for you, so decide before hand which is the one you are more interested in.

We are glad to help, just let us know when you need some more assistance!

Still awaiting a response from JA but im leaning towards the BGD, what do you guys think, its nicely within my bufget and you guys think its a good stone? I have to add that BGD are very easy to talk with and very, very helpful.

BGDs are cut to very exact specs so you should be fine going with that. Going to JA''s site, which has a larger inventory, is good if you have the time/inclination to sorts through stones to get nice stone at a nice price. With Brian Gavin it''s more of a no-brainer if you''re main consideration is cut quality with a minimum of hassle.

Is that suggestimg that i would get a better price or more bang for my buck at JA or a similair supplier?
