Hello! It’s been a while since I have posted any updates to the forum, so I thought I would check in and ask for your opinions again. Here’s my original thread for reference.

I am still completely torn about what ring is right for me. I’ve realized that I love them all, and it will be very difficult to find one ring that checks all of my boxes!

I went to visit my antique asscher halo at Grace’s prior to the holidays, and I sometimes wonder if I should be keeping it. It’s still up for sale - she had a buyer a few months ago, but her email to me went to spam and I missed it. :|

While there I snapped some new photos with my ring and also played with the amazing 5.85 solitaire she has in stock. My ring is truly stunning, but it’s also huge and a very specific style. It’s a true work of art though… That said, I do wonder if a classic solitaire would be the better choice in the long run. I also miss the sparkle factor that you don’t see as much in step cuts. On the other hand, my asscher is pretty unique and not something you see every day. So I don’t know what to do!

Here are a couple pics from the visit. Would love your opinions on what ring you think I should go with - which one looks better on me?? Which is the style I should go with?? Someone please make this decision so I don’t have to!!

Omg that is hard. Like really hard. So hard I can’t vote lol. I think I’m slightly leaning toward the asscher, but if you can swing a another ring. In other words, would you be able to buy an oec or omc too? A smaller one perhaps? And then you could alternate and scratch the itch.

I DIE for your incredible asscher :kiss2:, but I don't think the asscher halo is the ring for you.

If it were, I think you would have missed it a lot more while it was with Grace! And based on what you've written, I think you appreciate the artistry and uniqueness of the setting, but it is not the setting for you. If you really wanted to keep the ring, I think you would probably know by now!

I totally hear you on having a hard time committing to just one type of stone. I think the first thing you need to do is decide between a step cut and a brilliant cut, and then you can decide if you might fall in love with your asscher if it were in a different style setting. So I think you need to try on lots more stones, and also look at lots more pictures. I went back and forth between a step cut and a brilliant cut, and one thing that helped me confirm my step cut love was my reaction when I came across pictures of gorgeous emerald cuts. I love looking at brilliant cuts too, but a killer EC makes my heart stop every time....

Good luck!!

Perhaps you’re longing for a bigger diamond..?

Your antique asscher halo is a ring of dreams for me--one of my favorite rings on PS. It really looks so at home on your hand and, as you noted, unique. Please keep your asscher halo!

Why I voted for your asscher—it is a masterpiece and exudes elegance. I don’t want to disparage the OEC, but for me it’s no contest.

Thank you, I so appreciate the candor! I share that concern with a solitaire - will it feel too plain for me??

Honest opinion though - do you think it looks crazy on my hand? I think at the end of the day that’s what I question the most. I definitely like a bigger look, but still fine if that makes sense - but is it a total tank and does that detract from it in any way?

Ha you just answered the question I just asked - I appreciate that commentary!!!!

I just love your asscher ring on you!! It looks right at home. But you need to follow your heart and for some reason I think it isn’t the one for you or you could not have parted with it twice now with Grace.
I do love that OEC too!!

NO! It looks amazing on your hand. Between the two I prefer the asscher on your hand.

No!! It’s a masterpiece! Personally, I would always opt for a fancy shape in a 5 carat plus. I think that’s why most celebrities opt for fancy over round bc at some point, a big round solitaire just starts to look like a ring pop which personally, is not for ME.

I tried on the 5.85 ct K in NYC. It is-no question-a gorgeous stone.

But your Asscher is an gorgeous, exceptional stone and the halo is a work of art. I vote for the Asscher halo!

ETA:
I think finding a 4 ct + D color Antique Asscher to replace this one would be way harder than finding another 5 ct + K color OMC.

Could you set your asscher in a plain temp solitaire and pair it with a wedding band for a trial run? Try your lovely stone without the fancy dress? Then you would know if it’s the step cut you struggle with, or the halo, or perhaps both.
I had a fancy Tacori setting that I just could not get comfortable with. The ring was perfect in every way but just a little bit ott, to me, for my very casual life. I agonized before I decided to put the diamond in a plain solitaire. But it was the right call, I am so happy I changed it. I ended up with an aquamarine in the Tacori so I still get to enjoy it for blingier occasions. If you regret changing it, you can always put it back.

I agree with this when it’s an MRB haha. For some reason not for an oec or omc. But I do think that asscher is more special.

Heck no it doesn't look to big! Personally, I feel like a ring is starting to get "too big" when it sits super high off the finger. But hecka lotta finger coverage? Niiiice.

I voted for the asscher. It looks perfect on your hand! I think it's harder to find and the setting is a masterpiece. My favorite shapes are oec, omc, and step cuts but I feel like you can find a similar old cut more easily than the asscher (plus such a perfect setting).
How would you feel if your ring was sold?

This is a very good question! I think I’d definitely have a heart pang at first if it sold. Especially since I haven’t found a slam dunk replacement in the year (almost) that I put it up. I talked to Grace about possibly removing the diamond from the setting, and even that made me feel a bit queasy thinking about it. It didn’t seem right! :)

I think those making the point that I could get a smaller omc to scratch the itch might be onto something. I could also take the ring back and eventually trade the stone in with Jogani if he ever gets something in that makes me flip.

I really appreciate all of the feedback. It’s so helpful to get out of my head and read what you all see from an outside point of view. I truly value your thoughts!!!

My first response, gut reaction...antique asscher halo.

SWOON!

But I get your dilemma. I too would miss the chunkalcious sparkle of my OEC if I went with an emerald cut. But I LOVE emerald cuts so it is a hard choice. If I could I would want both. A HG emerald cut and a HG OEC. Is that too much to ask for? :)

I voted asscher. It’s just gorgeous. Stands out from the crowd and is super elegant, even though it’s substantial.

Can you afford both? I guess that would be the best of all worlds!

I agree. I prefer the current ring with Grace.

If you think you will think a plain solitaire is too dull now, you probably will always think that. I can't do a plain solitaire either. It's elegant on other people but on me, a four or six prong solitaire looks horrible and not the slightest bit elegant.

Love that asscher. It does not look too big because the halo is distinct.

Your antique ascher is so Beautiful and amazing. She looks perfect on your hand. I love old cuts, but in my opinion, your ring is just perfect already

NO! You have to keep your asscher. It is an incredible unique piece. If I saw that in a museum as part of some famous person's collection I would totally believe it. (maybe you are a celeb, I don't know!). But I feel you could find another OEC, maybe a smaller one for a RHR when you don't want to wear your blingalicious asscher or need a different kind of sparkle. You should always hold on to this, and save up for other additional rings IMO....sorry for being forward :shifty:.

That antique asscher ring is just beautiful - I would be heartbroken to let that go. Please keep it.
