About to finally bite the bullet..i think on an antique cushion cut that I am going to set in a very simple solitaire. Is 7,000. to much to pay for a J SI2 Eye Clean 1.60 ct? I realize the variables that play into it. Stone faces up extremely well. Having trouble price comparison shopping. OWD has several in the same stated quality range that are certed but are relative cheaper. I trust the vendor but with the lack of old cushions I can find online its hard to put a round figure on it. The cut and performance appear to be great.

I believe that the actual look of the stone (facets and the shape) also influence the price.

Hopefully one of our Old Cut Sages will chime in .

That's an impossible question to answer without looking at the stone. Have you seen it in person? Does it speak to you, have a nice make, good symmetry, good condition (no chips, nicks, etc., which are not uncommon in antique stones) and is it truly eye clean? Also, is the stone certed? If this is an uncerted stone, will you be having it independently appraised to confirm specs?

My advice is to compare specs and pricing across multiple vendors and look at this stone (and others) in order to determine if the price is fair. Even though it might be priced a little higher than the OWD comps you pulled, if the diamond is a beauty and really speaks to you (and it's a vendor you trust) then the price might be ok. And you're 100% correct that there aren't enough antique cushions to go around these days! If you found one you love, snap it up as it might be awhile before another nice one comes along.
