Good Morning!
Newbie here looking for some expert help!
I am a huge fan of Antique/Vintage/Retro engagement rings. I love the look of an Estate box or illusion setting and was wondering what characteristics I should be looking for in a stone that will be somewhat closed off from light interaction. I am considering stones somewhere in the .40-.50 range. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you!

Maybe one of the experts will have another opinion. But assuming RB, I think any superideal cut H&A will not be adversely affected. The diamonds that have problems are the lesser cuts. Steep/deep, shallow "head shadow" diamonds, etc. With an illusion setting, you have to keep the metal illusion plate polished. That's not a huge effort or cost, though.

I like the illusion settings. In addition to making the diamond look larger, they also provide protection for it.

The GOG August Vintage rounds would also be okay, I''d imagine. Any diamond that doesn''t leak much will probably be okay.

Thanks for the response. Will color matter as much as cut? Budget wise, I was thinking an I. H&A is not a problem at the lower end of the color spectrum.
