Any 3.5-5.5 ct blue sapphires worth calling in?

i have been looking online and realize some experts here can tell a lot from just a pic. Trying to find some online vendors that might have some great sapphires worthy of checking out. Heated or unheated, vivid saturation, well cut, medium to medium dark royal blue, love the velvety look, but don't want stone to look too dark once set. Needs to have some wow factor! No rounds, prefer cushion, emerald, or maybe oval. and budget is flexible at this point. Saw in another post Chrono found a nice 4 ct at master gems just last week, but I think it sold.

I called a friend in Thailand for the same thing but I was looking for unheated and eye clean. What clarity were you looking for. The problem there with him is that if he sees one he has to make the deal immediately with the condition it gets a cert from the lab of your choice that it is what he claims it is. I would have to trust his judgement and bet thousands.

the first and third one are really nice and not bad prices

OP? Where are you...............

I was eyeing that same stone from mastercutgems but it is not within my budget. Shoot Dana an email, he is really great to work with and his return policy is really reasonable. Hope that helps. :D

Hey- thanks. I am here... the mastercut stone with inclusion would bother me. trying to find stones that face up are a bit larger.

I want a stone like this... but not a pear shape. Looking for rectangular cushion or oval.

I would also love the holy grail.. like a slightly smaller version of this...

Those cushions look too dark.

they said there is a natural cavity under the girdle of the 3 ct stone. they also added a video that i dont think was up before. i wish i could find one larger, like face up closer to 10x8.

Sapphires are denser than other coloured stones an tend to face up smaller because of it. However you check over at http://atggems.com to see if there is something there.

What is your budget for the stone?

what does it mean to face up large or small?

I cant stomach going the rough or re-cut way because Im too afraid I might not like how it turns out. originally our budget was up to 20k, but I would love to spend less for a heated stone and willing to spend more for an unheated stone if it really was awesome. I just don't want to settle on a smaller stone or not best cut just to find something under budget. This stone has to last a lifetime of happiness. :)

All the pics and choices to a novice on the starruby site overwhelming! And I hate when it says email for price... that is bad news.

Is a stone like this going to be too deep to set in a ring and still be wearable? i want big stone, but not set so high that cant be worn daily.

Completely makes sense. Ah, okay. Understand. I'll stop posting non-relevant suggestions then. ;)

haha I figured you might find a few on there! Some may be worth inquiring about.

i looked on that site for 2 minutes and found a nice one to my eyes and I bet it cost $$$$$

haha Well, it never hurts (or costs anything) to ask the price. Then that way you can rule it out or seriously consider it! That's when the fun really begins. :D

ETA: Sorry, I didn't see your edited thread above. The depth is 6.39mm and in my limited experience I wouldn't say that's terribly deep. I think that'd be an okay depth, but I'm sure others with more experience will chime in.

With that budget and those requirements I'd check what's available at vendors like Palagems and Constantin Wild. They have large inventories and could source what you want. For Pala you'd have to contact them through a jeweler who will sell the gem to you (they only sell to those in the trade).

The depth is fine. I don't like the description of 'ink blue', that's not meant to be a good thing, lol. I'd be concerned about it's darkness (could black out in some lighting) but it has potential. I don't know how good GRS is in regards to detecting sapphire treatments. AGL is ideal.

I think GRS is fine for detecting treatment but they do not seem to take tone into consideration when describing the colour.

I noticed Pearlman's has colored stones listed on their website. Some of the pics look decent- anyone get stones through them?

I know someone was recently working with Pearlman's to source a blue sapphire for a ring, sorry I'm not having any luck finding the thread at the moment, but they seemed to have a very good experience. IIRC Pearlman's uses the Gem2000 inventory, which AfricaGems also has access to (Pearlman's often has better base pricing, but AfricaGems sometimes runs nice 20% off sales). And I know others have bought sapphires through AfricaGems and had good experiences. Wow, that's a very wordy way to say that most experiences with that inventory seem to be positive... maybe I should have had more coffee today.
