Ask him for a video. Though the cut looks slightly asymmetric, it's worth asking for a video. In my experience, his videos are very accurate (and much, much better than the photos).

I don't see any glaring problems with the cut. The slight asymmetry will not be at all noticeable IRL. Step cuts and darker stones are often less lively. The darkness bothers me. I'd look for something lighter in tone.

Step cuts aren't as lively as other cut shapes. I'm not too fussed about the symmetry as I don't think it'll be as obvious IRL but am more concerned about the darkish tone.

Will a loose stone look that much different (darker) once set? I keep finding stones that i guess in the end will look too dark, but lighter ones just look bland to me on my computer monitor. For example.. this stone from another ps'er looks awesome to me sometimes, but other pics look so light, but it is interesting once set. This makes it hard to find a sapphire from one pic online!

It will depend on the sapphire in question and the style/type of setting used. Some sapphires shift a lot and some barely shift.

I would also be concerned that it would substantially darken up when set & in other lighting conditions. Egh.

Concave cut but worth a look, I think the price is really good for being such an enormous stone with really good color. Hue could be better (showing a lot of purple) but the tone looks great.

Thank you for the recommendation- but I am not interested in a round. Looking for rectangular cushion or oval, maybe emerald cut.
