Happy Holidays!

I was recently visiting and admiring my moms beautiful green jade ring (wears daily from my great grandmother) and was reminded of a ring that was gifted to me by an Aunt when I was a little girl. My mom pulled it out and it is ginormous! Not sure if that is a word. Anyway it's lavendar and I can make out a partial gold stamp that is disappearing probably from sizing a few times by my aunt. Curious what you all think. Asked my mom what she thought and she said it's probably real as my aunt didn't really wear fake stuff. Does this look like a quality stone to you? Is it most likely treated? Should I invest to find out? If it's fake I would just keep it as is for the memories. If real I would probably have it sized to fit me to wear on occasion. For an idea on size my ring finger is between a 6-6.5 and my middle is about a 7.5? She had a lot of personality and I remember when she gave me the ring she also gave me 24k 10mm studs that my mom did let me wear right away and I unfortunately lost.

Sorry I can't help more as I'm not a jade expert, but that is a pretty ring! :) While lavender jade is not as valuable or common as regular green jade, it has become more popular in China in recent years and there are still plenty of dyed or fakes around (e.g. dyed to enchance color, or jade filled with resin, i.e. type B/C jadeite), so I would recommend getting it checked out by an expert to confirm if it is type A jade (i.e. natural untreated jadeite).

Here is a Type A lavender jade

Here are a few links that I found that may be of interest to you:

Unfortunately, there is no way for us to be able to tell whether it has been dyed or filled via pictures.

I would have a gem report done on it, which will tell you if it is natural, untreated jadeite. I know that Mason Kay is considered the gold standard for analyzing jadeite, but I believe they only take stones from trade members. AGL is usually recommended over GIA for colored stones, but I don't know about jade. Can someone who knows more about jadeite please let us know if AGL or GIA is better?

For an AGL GemBrief, it is only $75 for a mounted stone up to 20 carats for jadeite. AGL and GIA are both are located on the corner of E 47th and 5th Avenue in Manhattan. GIA also has a lab in CA.
