I'm sorry you didn't get it but hope to see it posted here soon. On a side-note, I've noticed more and more lighter toned green garnets being sold as tsavorite whereas in the past, nobody would ever consider this a tsavorite but instead called it a (mint) green gossular garnet. I wonder if this is a newer trend as the price of green garnets continue to rise?

I wish...I'm always amazed how quickly stones that I would consider expensive (regardless of whether or not it's a good price for the stone) get sold! I like to have at least a few hours to mull something over, but you can't do that without missing out, it seems. I thought both stones were beautiful. I do love the Jua round, though, and I have a mint garnet in that cut - it sparkles like crazy!

Chrono, I haven't been around long enough to see the shift in nomenclature, but I tend to think of a lighter colour when I hear the word "mint" - which is kind of odd, considering mint leaves are medium-dark. If Gene had called this one a deeper mint, would there be the expectation of the blue modifier? Or is the best thing just to call them all green grossulars?

Price of all green gossular garnets are at an all time high and I don't see it coming down any time soon. ;( I agree that it's odd to call a lighter toned green garnet mint when looking at the very dark green mint leaves but I think it refers to the lighter mint colouration of toothpaste, ice-cream and the like. To be safe and accurate, all should be called green grossulars. There was some debate a while back whether only stones with a blue modifier should be called mint garnets.

I passed on it because I like my tsavs med dark green and my mints with more of a blue modifier.
It looks like it will be a fireball of sparkle though!

I've noticed both prices of grossulars rising (sob) & changes in labeling as Chrono mentioned. I wouldn't have called that garnet a tsavorite because of its lighter tone -- have seen the same nomenclature changes lately on other sites.

Geeze, no time to mull or even take a breath before you miss out -- I haven't been around all that long, but competition has revved up.

I browse a lot but buy rarely these days & only a stone that shouts my name; therefore will pay a bit more for exactly the right thing. The price was steep but I was willing to cough it up for Gene's cutting & that lovely color in just the right size.

BUT -- did you see gold is going down a fair bit? Whew, finally!! Hope it continues till settings don't cost triple the price of the gem.
