Anyone care to weigh in on this contender?

This rock is at the top of my list right now. It comes in at $16500. ASG cert attached. Think I can do better than this or would this be a keeper? Budget is $20k (including setting, which I know is going to cost around $2.5k), but could move up a little. I saw it in person. SI1 would bother me but I recall it being eye clean. I dont want to pay for H and up, so I is right. Idealscope looked pretty good. Would love to hear your opinions. Thanks!

If the attachment doesn't work, stats are as follows:

Round Brilliant
8.16x8.20x5.03mm
AGS Triple Ideal
I Color (AGS 2.5)
SI1 (AGS 5)
2.057 cts
34.5 degree crown angle
40.9 degree pavillion angle
56.3% table
61.5% table
Negligible fluoresence

It looks promising. Can you get magnified images of the stone?

That's a phenomenal price on a true H&A and a 2ct!!!! It's also a 1.5 on the HCA so I'd bag that up! :appl: :appl: :appl: PS - comps range upwards 20k for a stone like that...

Christina, I may be able to make that happen tomorrow. Will post images if available.

The well respected vendor (by pricescope standards) showed me three stones. All very nice and with approx the same stats (small variations in table/depth/pavilion/crown). The other two stones came in at $18.5k. One of those stones was my favorite but by a very narrow margin. It came in at .07(!) on HCA calc and was more fiery (by a little). Still seems hard to justify the extra 2k for that. When I said eye-clean before, I meant held from inches or so away. I think the inclusions on my contender were less noticeable too (tho both SI1). Saw four rocks at another vendor today and was not nearly as impressed.

I think its a great deal but haven't seen a ton of stones so am just a little concerned about pulling the trigger. I was surprised he said it, but the vendor told me he liked my contender best of the 3 before I indicated my preference (he knew what I was looking for tho (budget included obviously), so still could have sort of been telling me what I wanted to hear). He's holding it for me till tomorrow at least. Gonna prob have my mom come in and look at that stone next to a few others just to get some more eyes involved.

I think that it's great that you saw the stones in person and were able to compare them side by side. Ultimately it's your eyes that will tell you if it's a beautiful stone or not. But from the numbers it appears to have lots of potential, and if it's clean to your standards then you likely have a winner! It also appears to be competitively priced! How will you be setting the diamond?

Sounds like a great price for a 2 carat AGS 0 stone, and I think it's great that you got to see it in person and compare it to other diamonds. Just for clarification, HCA is not a ranking tool, meaning that a 0.5 on the HCA is better than a 1.0 on the HCA, and a 1.5 on the HCA is not better than a 2.0 on the HCA. Any stone that scores 2 or under on the HCA is worth further examination.

Second, I'm not sure if your jeweler represented this stone as a Hearts and Arrows cut, or if you even care that it's an H&A stone, but if the stone was represented to you as a hearts and arrow cut, then the jeweler should show you the stone's H&A pattern under a special H&A viewer.

Please post photos if you can of the diamond after you purchase it.

Lula, understood re HCA not being used as a ranking tool. Also, it was not represented as an H&A cut, but I did have the opportunity to view the stone through an Idealscope and while the optical symmetry was not perfect, it was definitely passable from both the table and the pavillion as an H&A (IMO).

Sounds like you did your homework -- congrats on finding a a great stone for a great price.
