Ok, so my boyfriend and I have been searching around for vintage ring, got great ideas from the forum, didn't really find anything yet, also thought about just a diamond band, nothing jumping out....but now my mom has given us my grandmother's cluster ring, to see if I can do something with it. Its definitely not my style, I'm more into art deco, but is it possible to make an interesting ring out of the diamonds in a cluster? Has anyone done that? Is it possible since they're so tiny? Here are some (sorry blurry) images.

Thanks for any advice, insight!

most cluster rings have small diamonds that are cloudy and have inclusions. Personally, I would leave them in the ring and it could be worn as a RHR.
If the diamonds in the ring are clear and inclusion free they could possibly be worth resetting, but I cant remember the last time I saw a cluster ring with vs diamonds in them. By and large they are usually low si clarity or I clarity.

I agree, it doesn't shine very much unless under DIRECT light. Another thing I forgot to mention, is yes, we're trying to save money as well and a free ring is tempting to "figure out"...not that I know how much resetting anything is anyways. Maybe as a multi row band? :/

diamonds that size aren't worth much, to buy or sell - I imagine the metalwork required in the reset would contribute the vast majority of the expense.

Ditto.

I agree. When I have lost a stone, my jeweler replaces it at no charge. I think he might mention it if the material cost very much.

hmmm bummer...well thanks so much for the replies, everyone! I love these forums cuz I learn so much! haha. Thanks :)
