Anyone feel like helping me find a pink tourmaline? (:

So, I recently purchased a beautiful single earring from a fellow PSer with the intention to easily make it into a pendant or even a ring but upon receiving it, cleaning it, and shoving that baby onto my ear I realized it looked much too beautiful as an earring.

So here I go into the difficult but not exactly impossible task of finding a similar stone to make the other earring out of.

Pictures attached of the tourmaline earring that I took that show the color accurately.

I am looking for one that is the same shape and the same size face up, everything else, Including the color doesn't have to be exact as they're earrings and most won't notice if they're more like second cousins instead of sisters. ;)2

Here's what I'm looking for:

-9mm (can be 8.5mm+ or 10mm)

-Cushiont cut (doesn't have to be precision if the color is nice)

-In the realm of Barbie Pink (Can be a little darker or a little lighter)

-Good Clarity

-Carat size doesn't matter as long as it faces up 9mm but without knowing the density of tourmaline I'd guess this one is anywhere from 2-3cts

-Has to be under $500, the cheaper the better as I'm running quite a bit of projects rn!

It will be set into the same frabricated 14k rose gold earring setting as the other and adored to pieces! Any help in finding one that will work would be amazing! Thank you amazing ladies in advance!

Onto amateur snaps of current beauty! ❤️

Barbie pink is very rare color in tourmaline. Therefore, it will be difficult to get that size under $500, let alone a cushion with specific measurements.

Most pink tourmaline has a brownish modifier, especially in various lighting.

I understand which is why I'm considering having something custom cut and am even looking at finding a similarly cut minty blue green tourmaline for an asymmetrical look. I just thought it wouldn't hurt to enlist extra eyes in case something pops up!

FYI I'm also willing to take the time needed to find the perfect rough for this project, and best cutter for the job! I'm not in any hurry (:

I keep my eyes open for other options :)). The tourmaline in your earring is beautiful!

I'm super tempted by the first you linked although it's 1mm larger and the color is slightly less saturated. I think it could work for an earring and it's great they have a good return policy!

Although the green one is way more similar in terms of cut and size, I'm just looking for a minty green tourm with just a tiny bit more blue in it if I go that route!

What do you personally think 2Neezers? Should I buy the first and see it in person next to the other and if it doesn't work return it or should I keep looking?

& The middle is stunning but the cut would blow mine out of the water plus is has more of a brown tint to it.

Let me know what you think as I value your opinion!

If you’re tempted by the first one, I think I would order it to see it in person. That’s the only way you will know if it will be a close enough match for your tourmaline. If I remember correctly, Michael takes his photos outdoors and lives in a far northern state. It might look a little different where you live, hopefully closer in color to your tourmaline, but you won’t know unless you see it in hand. I‘ve had a few transactions with Michael and he was extremely nice, even when I returned one stone.
If you are thinking of a minty blue green, I do know of a 8.4mm cushion that might be available. Just let me know ;)). I really like the Linton pink tourmaline though, if you think it could work for you.

Is this minty blue green in someone's little hot hands already? Lol you cannot say that & then withhold babe!

Also let me know if you'd rather correspond by email & I can make a LT contact.

Also I forget how visually impactful 1mm can be in size. I drew out the litnon pt and it's just way too large and would look silly next to mine so I'm editing the bullet point to narrow the search to to 8.5-9mm. (although I'd still love to see that minty blue green!!!)

Sorry about that! I can send you the info through LT if that works for you!
10mm in a cushion is a pretty sizable stone. I think your new target size range will work much better if you want them to look close to matching.

Awww, you are so kind :)). I’m so happy you found a stone for your earring project! The pink and blueish green tourmalines look so pretty side by side in the pictures. I can’t wait to see what you think once you have them together in person!

@TheGarnetGirl Just noticed that the cutting is quite different for both stones. Would that bother you? Asking as I’d consider et toi moi for some loose stones but they had different cutting and looked “off” when I tried mock ups.

Thank you for voicing your concern but to satiate it:
No, not whatsoever (: Especially not as earrings! I noticed that they had different facet patterns but as long as they're the same overall shape & same size face up, which they are, I am a happy gal.

(& Although I'm a member of PS I tend to not fit into the scrupulous
rumored nature of the site members, or so I'd like to think! ha)

That’s great! It just wasn’t something I thought about until I played with some stones irl so just wanted to mention. Pls keep us posted, and am happy for you that your search is so fast!

I understand, thank you for pointing it out! & that's a darn bummer on your toi et moi! I love those rings & have an antique pearl & diamond one! What stones were you wanting to use?

& Thank you for following along on my very short chunky bubblegum earring journey! It was incredibly fast, which I'm not complaining about, but I was expecting it to take weeks or even months! The benefit of having jewel friends!

Congrats on finding a match so quickly, @LemonMoonLex !

@2Neezers : can I clone you and take you shopping with me??

I forgot to update this thread but with the help of @2Neezers I was able to make the mismatched cushion tourmaline earrings of my dreams!

I present, my chonker bubblegum earrings! The tourmalines are more like cousins then twins but it fits with their drastic mismatch in color.

When worn they give the onlooker quite the shock! I had a woman at the airport who was ringing my book up and made a comment about how at first glance, she thought her memory or sight was failing her because they were pink but I turned and they were blue haha, although she did think that they were a lot of fun!

They're a super fun pop of color to wear! Plus depending upon what I'm wearing the blue-green tourmaline can look more teal or more minty which can really change up the look of the pair!

What really makes me happy is their similarity to the earrings my mother wore when I was a child, albeit these are the fine version in cushions than trillions. Their chonky simplicity and fun dangle articulation is the same and they have brought me so much joy!

I really need to take better photos of them but these are what I have so far!

I think I might be the only one on PS that struggles to take good ear shots! They always turn out blurry & crazy looking!
