Barbara posted her July update today, did anyone get any new sparklies?? (I only didn''t because I''m trying to stick to my list. But don''t get me wrong-I was in there at 9:50 poking around....Just in case...)

Nope, but I will say, boy does she have some eye poppin' pieces!!

A few spinel's and sapphire's I'd like to scoop up. But I must save save save and be good, even though its so hard!

Oh man! Someone already snapped up the iolites

! The Umbra garnet and mozabique tourmaline are tempting too.

Ooo...I''m loving the tourmaline too mercoledi. But I really shouldn''t be spending $$$ right now, so I''m refraining. But wow. It''s gorgeous.

Not to mention a few other stones on her site that I''d love to have but just can''t justify the $$$....

Oohh I wanna see ladies! Link me?

For you MP: ACS Mozambique Tourmaline

I was going to go gem shopping today, but I talked myself out of it. What the heck is wrong with me?

Thanks!

I have talked myself out of the gem shops you told me about several times, but I am determined - I am going this weekend! I want to see what I can find, even if we don''t buy anything...but I bet I will!

Lol. I thought about going on Saturday, but I''m scared I''ll spend too much money. Mama''s isn''t so much a gem shop though-they really don''t have much there. But Southwestern Minerals (I think that''s the name) is practically all day worthy. There was another place off San Mateo that I want to hit too, but for some reason I''m nervous about it...

What''s it called?

Southwestern Minerals is the one I want to go to this weekend. I have driven past it so many times but I never knew it had actual gems - it looked like your standard indian jewelery.

I don't know! All I can remember is that it's on the west side of San Mateo a block or two before Lomas. I think it is probably this place: Liberty Gem and Minerals because it seems like it's in the right location. If you go, you'll have to let me know how it went. And if I go, I'll report back as well!

(Having issues with links apparently....

ETA: I give up. Just google Liberty Gem and Minerals ABQ NM and it'll bring up the address.

Wow. This looks awesome! I''ll try and swing by there sometime this weekend - my gem buying all depends on what I find tonight. (I am trying a creative way to get my new emerald cut set...if I get it done, no gems! But if I don''t, then I am going crazy in the gem shops.)

Wow....I wonder if they're open tomorrow. I'm about 6 minutes away from Liberty and about 10 from Southwestern....hmmm...I could almost go today!

ETA: What's going on with the emerald? Are you getting it set here or elsewhere?

Oh I didn''t even think about tomorrow....I forgot it''s the 4th. HAH, goes to show how much fun stuff I''m doing tomorrow!

I am going to try and get it set here, if my plan works. I''ll come back and post tonight or tomorrow morning and let you know how it went, I don''t want to jinx myself heh. I am hoping that the Quick-Fix Jewelers in the mall will be able to help me, otherwise I am back to square one!

Lol. And I''ve been sitting here thinking of nothing else because all of BFs people keep asking us to do stuff, and I was hoping for just hanging out by ourselves. UGH.

I''m very curious as to what you''ve got going on over there with this emerald cut....

LOL well are you at least doing something fun? DH''s parents are having a BBQ, but that''s it for me. We want to try and see the fireworks at the Isotopes park, but we may end up at the Balloon Fiesta park instead. Decisions, decisions. I have been to the Balloon Fiesta park the last three years and it''s SOOO much fun - tons of food and music and really good fireworks.

As for my ring...I am convinced now that if I tell anybody it will not work out, and it''s kind of a strange idea, so I''ll have to see how it goes. I know I have heard of people doing this before, but we will have to see what the Quick-Fix place tells me first - I know Zales (the other store I will be stopping by) won''t do it for me. Prayers!

Thanks for reminding me.. I am going to take a look now, hope all the yummy stuff hasn''t been snapped up..

That amethyst is eye-popping! I''m not surprised it went so fast. I''m digging the Umba garnet too, but I still have a red spess and three other garnets to set first.

So I can tell you how my attempt went yesterday now :)

I was originally going to go into Zales and buy a sapphire baguette band and have my jeweler pull the central stone out for a peg head, which would hold my emerald cut. I spoke to him first, he said he could do it. So I go to Zales, and the hubby hated the band once it was on my finger. "Not enough shiny." I let him pull me reluctantly over to the diamond band section (I figured everything there would be crazy expensive), and I found the most AMAZING ring...on sale for 250! Needless to say, I bought two. My jeweler said he probably can''t put a peg head in this ring though because the space will be too small even if he pulls out a diamond. So we are going to get a very thin solitaire setting to put between them. We are going to trade in my emerald cut (crycrycry!) for a princess to match the bands. Thankfully, I like princess cuts lol. Swing by my SMTR thread to see, the bands really are amazing :)
