Anyone go from Solitaire to 3 Stone and regret? or Vice Versa?

I fell absolutely in love with a vintage Tiffany three stone ring with a 2.4 carat ruby center and wear it as my ultimate upgrade!!! I feel like three stone rings are a good compromise between coverage and being easy to wear like a larger eternity band.

I never expected to love a three stone more than a solitaire and had actually picked out a lab solitaire that was a little shy of 4 carats but I found that I really couldn’t wear it comfortably day-to-day- it kept getting in the way of things. I still have the ring (I had excellent help on the lab forum picking out the stone and it’s beautiful, pics don’t do it justice!) and I will eventually re-set it in a setting that is lower profile, I think I will get more wear out of it then. I definitely wear it for special occasions!

Omg I want to know more about the Ruby! I don’t see a thread on it. It’s gorgeous!

Thank you! I never actually made a thread but I posted about it in the “show me your Tiffany” thread back when I bought it. It’s a deep mixed oval cut with a little chip which shows the love it’s had over the years! It’s really glowy which I enjoy, but has had heat treatment but no other treatments. I compromised because it was soooooo pretty and it was just my size, I was able to get a very reasonable price at auction as well.

I remember when you got this! It’s stunning.

I'm not sure where you stand on this right now, if you're still sticking with the pear or still deciding. I have a 5.5 ct OEC lab diamond in a halo. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE it. LOVE! It's perfect, and i mean that literally... LOL. Because it's a lab, it doesnt have that wonderful weirdness and wonky charm of an actual antique. So I also decided to make a true antique three stone. The thing about jewelry is it's SO incredibly personal. We all have shapes and facet patterns and colors we prefer. So for me personally, i *know* it's not 'right' but i like, actually i will say prefer, a three stone where they sides maybe dont perfectly match, it adds to the charm for me. I am also over 50 and my eyesight is going so there's that, maybe i just dont SEE the difference??!! LOL

Anyway, so I am doing to do what @Mreader suggested, have one of each! A wonderfully wild weird wonky mismatching true antique 3 stone and my halo.

Since i am like you (I think) with needing a lot of finger coverage, it's super important to me, so a solitaire doesnt really do it for me. I also like the extra sparkle the halo (and three stone) gives.

I feel like this is the great thing with labs, now I can have two rings, both styles, with huge diamonds ...and still retire at some point :lol-2:

So maybe you can have one of each, an earth mined of one type and a lab of another??

Oh, what a fun project! I am all about that finger coverage!!

I wish Labs were for me, I explored it for a hot minute, and while beautiful it was the whole mind clean thing for me... I do love going into the lab forum to see what everyone is creating! Too beautiful not to appreciate! Plus I am not one that changes my jewelry very often, I pretty much wear all of my staple and signed pieces everyday:

2 Gold Cartier Love Bracelets
An Eternity Band (new)
A just un clous Cartier ring with diamonds on my right index
A love ring on my right ring finger
Done... that's all she wrote on my hands and wrists....

I just had some diamond huggies made by DK so I could have earrings I could just keep in my ears!

I like the idea of one Engagement ring... but I can totally understand the allure of mixing it up! I am still on the Pear 3 stone train, I actually am not a huge fan of Solitaire Pear rings? I feel like they need side balance because of the shape, hence the 3 stone...

I agree with you about the pear solitaire. I think pears look prettier as three stone rings. You probably already said this but what shape are you looking at for the side stones?

I am starting to think I want my next ring in a few years to be a MRB with either baguette or pear sides. Can't believe I am thinking of moving away from antique stones.

Can't wait to see what you do!

You know, I do see trends here...Modern, to Antique, and back to Modern... At least in my personal experience, while I loved the chunky facets, I kind of craved something newer and "icier"- whether a Round-ACA, or a Pear. I will always love old cuts, but I have learned a lot about myself during this process, and I am super excited to lean into a modern cut. It's nice to be open to evolve, and I feel fortunate that my partner has been so supportive, but this will be my last go, so I want to get it right!

I plan to flank the Pear with Pear sides.. at least for now, that is what I am leaning towards. Depending on the actual stone itself, I may play with other side stones to see what I love the most. I will say I LOVE rounds with Pear sides, I ADORE Angie Harmon's original engagement ring from Jason Seahorn! Will be on the lookout for your next project!!! I reached out to a couple of vendors today, and NO ONE has gotten back to me, granted it's only been since this morning but I am itching to get started!!!

I think a pear with pear side stones will be so pretty, I love drooling over the pear side stone rings on the Graff website.

I go back and forth between baguettes and pears when I think of what I'd like to do with a round, guess it's a good thing it will be a few years before I do anything again, plenty of time to think!
