Well, this weekend is going to be the big purchase (I hope!)....

Now when a woman doesn''t wear fashion rings for me to sneak and measure, I''m left guessing... and I hope some of the experienced forum members might make a suggestion.

This lady is about 5''2, 110-115 lbs and of Asian descent (petite frame). For footwear she can get away with buying the largest size of kid''s shoes.

Years ago, she left me try on one of her "fashion" rings... it barely fit my pinky, which I believe is a size 5.

Also, if the ring is Platinum... is it difficult to resize?

Any help on this one is appreciated.

sorry...

Heh heh -- not sure if this will help, but I fit your description, and I wear a size 4.75 - 5 ring finger.

Congratulations!

Platinum can be resized. I believe it''s cheaper to resize to a smaller size than resize to a larger one, so err on the larger size (plus she can wear it). No idea on what size finger she has. Good luck.

Better to go bigger than smaller.

Women''s average is a 6, but since she''s petite and Asian, I would go with a 5.

In all likelihood she''s smaller than that, but it''s a pretty safe size based on your description.

I''m betting she is only a 4.5. She might even be a 4. At that weight and size, I was a 4 with a loose ring. I now wear 4.5, but I''m past that weight a bit.

Why don''t you get a friend to go shopping and casually find out her size when they are window shopping? Or you could do the same?

Better to size down than up. However, after having several mall stores do sizing for me (down), I hate how poorly they have been done, so I don''t buy a ring anymore unless I can order in my size. But this is one of my pet peeves...

It has been said on here many times before that good jewelers don''t make those poor sizing errors, so you should be ok if you miss the mark and it is too large. Just make sure you go to someone who you have heard good things about their craftmanship.

Anything that has diamonds on the band might be more costly to size because they have to deal with more factors (diamonds in a channel popping out, eternity bands...)

Other people have given you advice on determining what ring size to buy; I do not disagree with what they said. I do think it would be a lot better to get the size right the first time, however. When I was first married I had my engagement and wedding band resized due to weight gains and losses. I quickly learned that it wasn''t good for the rings! I suggest that you get her correct size the first time. Good luck!

Plain platinum settings should not be difficult to size up or down a size or two. If the ring has pave, or is channel or bead set, or is engraved, then it can become more difficult and you may be limited by how much you can go up or down.

I also fit your description, except I''m not asian. My finger size is a 4.5. I think a 4.5 would be safe...just make sure it''s a setting that can be resized up to a full size just in case.

You could always go to a jeweler and find a ring that barely fits your pinky in the same way that hers did, or try on those little sizing rings that most jewelers have. Or maybe this will help if you can get your hands on one of her fashion rings and compare it to the circles here:

I think it would be better to get her correct ring size so you don''t need to resize it later. But if you definitely don''t want to ask your gf, I''d get a size 5. Like others said, it''s easier to size down and my guess is she''s a 4 or 4.5.

From your description I would guess she is a size 4 BUT finger thickness can vary quite a bit and so to be on the safe side you could get a 4.5 . . . if her ring didn''t fit your size 5 pinky, I would guess that a 4.5 would be a safe bet. Good Luck.

Again, not sure if this will help, but I also almost fit your description, though I weigh less, and my ring size is 4. So going with a 4.75 might be safe! Then it won't be so loose she can't wear it, but you can still size it down.

any chance you could use a piece of string to measure her finger while she is sleeping? Or...go buy a cheapo bubble gum machine ring that adjusts and think of some goofy set up to get her to put it on then measure it?
