I sit here waiting for my new ring from Blue Nile. I am ok with their 30 day return policy because I live in the sticks and no jewelry stores within say 2 hours of me carry Asschers.

Anyway, has anyone PERSONALLY had the experience with getting a bad diamond from blue nile? Or a disappointment where you sent it back? I'm asking for personal stories, not a retelling of stories from people you know.

I'm just curious. I really hate that you can't see your diamond before you buy it. But I also wouldn't know until I get it... so I am willing to give BN a shot.

Anyone have experiences to share?

Thanks!

Hi! If it helps to reassure you, I just bought a diamond, sight unseen, from Blue Nile in January. I went by the numbers to make my purchase, but it is just as beautiful in person. Here are my specs:
Shape: Marquise Brilliant
Carat weight: 1.30
Cut: Very Good
Color: D
Clarity: IF
Depth %: 59.8%
Table %: 58%
Polish: Good
Symmetry: Good
Girdle: Thin to Slightly Thick
Culet: None
Fluorescence: None
Measurements: 11.28 x 6.01 x 3.60 mm
Length/width ratio: 1.88

Good luck to you! I hope you love your diamond as much as I love mine:)

I have never purchased a diamond from Blue Nile yet. I wouldn't totally rule them out if it was just one honest mistake this company makes. However, money is valuable and oftentimes we have only limited resources so I can see why you would be concerned.

I got my engagement ring center stone from BN. It's a .90 rb, e color, and vvs1. Sorry I don't have the specs. I didn't see the diamond in person either. I love my stone I got and would never return it or get rid of it.

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

I have bought two diamonds from Blue Nile and been really happy with both of them. Maybe I'm not a very sophisticated buyer, but I just went by the stated cut grades and they look incredibly sparkly and beautiful, which is good enough for me. If you're super picky it may not be the right route. I live in the UK where many of the diamonds around are very poor quality, so there is little for me to compare it to in real life!

I did have to return the wedding band as I just didn't like the weight and profile. I had worn it around the house for close to a month trying to decide, and I'm sure there were microscopic marks from this. They didn't bat an eyelid and refunded my money the day they received it back. I think they go above and beyond to make returns painless, because they know a lot of people are put off by the "sight unseen" thing, and the slightest hint of difficult returns would mean a huge loss of business.

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

My husband purchased my 2.03 RB engagement ring from BN years ago when we lived in the US. The center stone is an H, VVS2 and it couldn't be more sparkly and beautiful! He recently purchased me 2.01tcw diamond studs for Xmas and they also are wonderful. My teenage daughter now has some small diamond studs from BN and loves them! We live in Hong Kong now and do buy locally from our jeweler most of the time, but Blue Nile is a great option overseas as well. Their return policy and upgrade policy is really good. If you don't get what you like, they will take it back no problem.

Thanks! I'm so very anxiously awaiting the delivery!

We bought my diamond through Blue Nile, as well. They did, however, provide us with photos when we asked for them. (The diamond is 4 cts... we told them we wouldn't purchase without at least one photo.

At the same time, we also purchased a stone (3 cts) through James Allen. The one from BN was much more appealing to us, and not just because of the size. My center stone is a cushion, and as we all know, you just can't judge a cushion without seeing it!

I was glad we liked the BN one better, as James Allen offers free returns and BN doesn't. (That said, BN did tell us that based on the price of the stone, as "preferred customers" they would make an exception and pay for return shipping if we didn't like it. I'm sure they were hoping that we would consider another BN diamond if that one didn't work out.)

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

Rounds are the only shape I would consider ordering without pictures, and I don't really recommend that. You have to have them for all other shapes or you are likely to not get the best possible stone for your money. There is not enough information on a grading report to tell you about the cut of the stone (aside from rounds), with the one exception of princess cuts that are graded AGS Ideal cut.

There are many vendors here who also have 30 day return policies that provide pictures. I don't have access to a good selection of stones here, either. But it does help to use a vendor who will screen stones for you and then take pictures and ASET images so you can be relatively certain you are choosing a great stone before you actually order.

My DH purchased my ring from BN. I love my radiant. It's exactly what I wanted and I've received a lot of complements on it. We were very happy with the experience.

I had very happy experenice with bluenile, the customer service was AMAZING. I kept the diamond I got from BN,but returned the setting for upgrading to halo. They offered me free international return(I am in Canada) and issue a full refund for setting. The whole process only took 3 days.

You should be pleased with that diamond. It is just gorgeous!

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

Thanks!! I love it.

I don't know how in house appraisals work, but I paid about 12,900K for the stone and setting and BN appraised it for about 21,000.

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

I bought my anniversary ring from blue nile--it is beautiful. I have bought two other diamonds from there since and also a pair of earrings (for a friend). In one case, the diamond was an SI2 that I felt was not eyeclean. They accepted it back without any trouble and in fact exchanged it for a slightly more expensive stone at no added cost, once I told them that I did not like the stone.
I would recommend them highly. Their customer service is great to work with. They may not have all the extra things that many of the recommended price club vendors have (aset images, etc) but they have lower prices than those other vendors also and as I said, their customer service is great.

Re: anyone gotten a "bad" diamond from Blue Nile Or sent it

I haven't purchased a diamond through BN, but have purchased a lot of other jewelry and made some returns, as well, and they have GREAT c/s. For that reason, I'd not hesitate to at least TRY if I found a diamond that caught my eye!
