I am looking for full eternity in just over 1 ctw about 2.5 m wide - (my size 4.75) to have as my wedding band

I was originally going to go for this one:

http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/diamonds-for-an-eternity-diamond-wedding-band-598.htm

As the one bellow looked too expensive. This one is also a bit big but I assume that the same ring in smaller size (2.5 wide) and in platinum would not be cheper than $ 3.000

http://www.whiteflash.com/wedding-bands/annettes-u-prong-eternity-diamond-wedding-band-978.htm

But have found this one which will be about $1.650 - half price!!?? Aren't the last two very similar? Also the first one and the third one are similar ctw althought the setting is different..

Thank you very much!

Re: Anyone knows why there is this difference in price of th

These bands are definitely different in terms of quality.

The first one is made with ACAs (top cut), to a total of 1.08 ctw between 27 stones. They average 4 points each. They are F/G, VS. The metal is 18k white gold.

The second one is made with ACAs (top cut), to a total of 2.00 ctw between 20 stones. They average 10 points each. They are F/G, VS. The metal is 18k white gold.

The last is made with stones with no cut quality listed, so could be anything. They total 1.3 ctw between 26 stones. That's an average of 5 points. They are F/G, SI. The metal is 14k white gold.

So all in all, the last band has diamonds only slightly larger than the first band, but with a lesser cut and clarity. The diamonds are half the size of the second band, in addition to being a lower clarity and inferior cut. Also, the quality of gold differs between ID and WF.

The bottom line is - sometimes you get what you pay for. :))

yep, what JustGinger said. ;)) There have been some PSers very happy with their IDJ eternity bands though. If you are still considering purchasing through them, I would suggest telling them that you are a PS member and want PS quality stones used in the ring. Of course it will likely increase the price, but it may still be a savings over the WF option.

Re: Anyone knows why there is this difference in price of th

Thanks very much both!

I have now asked ID for ideal cut stone and VS quality, still quite big difference in price. Maybe the platinum quality is a bit different too..

true ideal cut, about 1ctw, VS clarity in platinum is $1995

http://idjewelryonline.com/product_info.php?cPath=53_127&products_id=18942

and the same spec is $2800

I am sure there is a reason for this ut I may go for the cheaper if I chose to go for this type of ring?!

Thanks

ditto what Christina said.

I think this comes down to a case like recently where someone asked if you can still have a nice stone but without H/A branded cut- and the answer is yes. The ACA are branded Hearts and Arrows stones, they are cut very specifically and it generally is more expensive to cut to that amount of presicion, but you can certainly still have a well cut stone (near ideal specs) that will perform well without the extra expense.

In the case of ID Jewelry, since they are so used to dealing with PS'ers, you'd probably be fine going either way, unless you are super picky and absolutely HAVE to have the H/A cut for mindclean issues. I know ID Jewlery has done some really nice stuff for people here.

Re: Anyone knows why there is this difference in price of th

My IDJ experience was wonderful. I had asked for PS quality stones , F/G and SI and they were great! When I met them in the fall, Yekutiel was willing to swap out one of my diamonds I had a concern about... but when he showed me it had fluoro... I decided it keep it!! that feature won out over the inclusion!

If you order from them, be VERY clear that you are on PS, you want PS quality and you want it eye clean at "X" inches.

Re: Anyone knows why there is this difference in price of th

Enerchi, I've got two quotes from them - one is for PS diamonds F/G colour, excellent cut (I think they said excellent to ideal) and IS clarity. this was $1650 and $1995 for ideal cut and VS clarity, I am not sure if it is worth paying extra for slightly better stone. what do you think? I also forgot to aks if they come with the certificate.

Re: Anyone knows why there is this difference in price of th

If it were me, overall the $300 would be well worth it for the life of the wedding band! Buy the best you can afford and you won't regret it. The better the cut, the better the sparkle, fire and scintillation. You can't go wrong buying the upgraded stones!

I've been very happy with my IDJ items and they do have a great reputation for customer service - fixing anything after the sale that is not to your request.
