Here is another stone George Ellis cut and set for his..[cough]..lucky wife
(you can tell he stopped by the house the other day so I snapped some pics...if I had more time I would have gotten some of his faceted opals and a few other things... =) )
What makes this one really special.....
After years of digging with him around the South-East he finally found a good quality aquamarine from the Hogg Mine here in Georgia, USA
On that fateful day, which sadly I was not present for, he was doing his signature "Ellis crawl" on his hands and knees searching the dumpiles for any flicker or flash of blue....
Lo and Behold out pops a piece of aquamarine crystal.....
I don't recall the stats..maybe he will see this and post them
You can't beat digging your own aquamarine up then faceting it yourself. From the earth to the neck with no one else touching it along the way.
Even TL would/could not disapprove of this aqua since no money was spent purchasing it...hehehehe

The spots you see are all dust...I didn't take the time to wipe them off sadly. It's a very clean stone.
I didn't know they would be so prevelant[the dust spots] at the time I took the picture then after uploading later in the day I realized they were very visible.
I had grubby fingers :nono: that day when I was handling it

VERY lucky wife! That is a beautifully cut stone and I love the colour. What a wonderful skill to be able to source/cut/mount all on your own. (Mmmm.... thinking about sending DH back to school!!)

Beautiful stone! I also love that it is simply set to emphasis its beauty. :))

and for it to be a US stone i think also makes it "special"!

I don't believe there is very much facet-able Aqua that comes out of the Hogg Mine, so that makes this piece even more special. Thanks for sharing!

The aqua is lovely and the setting compliments it very well.

Thanks for sharing, Barrett.
