Are all GIA certed diamonds inscribed?

Hi, I realized that my diamond with GIA cert doesn't have its GIA report number inscribed on its girdle. I thought all GIA certed diamonds have their report number on the girdle. It appears it isn't so in my case. How does GIA decide when to inscribe report number and when not to?

Thank you.

No, not all GIA certed diamonds have the # inscribed on the girdle. I believe all stones 2 carats and over do, though. Also, I believe you need about 30x magnification to see the inscription. You can't see it with a regular 10x loupe.

To have the inscription is an additional service at GIA, meaning an additional fee that not everyone wants to pay. Plus some people don't want it. I for one personally don't like it and wouldn't buy a diamond with it for my own crazy reasons.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about laser inscription for less vs more than 2 ct till today.

Thank you. It didn't occur to me that there is an extra fee for inscription. May I know why you don't want an inscription? Would it make it easier to identify the diamond, especially when you have to send it in for resize, polish, etc?

After staring at my diamond for as long as I have I would know in a heart beat I could identify my diamond among hundreds of others. So I'm not worried about that.

Honestly, it is a crazy reason, but I hate the idea of inscribing diamonds beecause it seems like it takes the romance away. Let me stick a number on it for IDing purposes so it makes it easier to find it a line up. I'm just not a fan of it, but I guess I have old world ideas of what is romantic. I also like reading from paper books vs. my kindle for the same reason.

And FWIW when I spoke to the guy at GIA about it (I recently sent in a diamond) he said most women didn't care for the number inscribed on their diamonds, but it was a service that most men bought. :D I can totally see my husband doing this and me telling him I would no longer wear it then. That would so not go over well!!!

Thanks for your response. I actually wanted my diamond inscribed initially but I forgot all about it till it was set. It was too late to get it inscribed then. I went to my jeweler today who said she wouldn't accept my ring for polish if the diamond wasn't inscribed. Anyway after looking at my ring, she said she couldn't accept my ring for polish regardless even if diamond was inscribed as my ring is bezel set (so can't see inscription even if it was inscribed).
