Are halo rings still in style?

Halos are one thing, micropave is another. I do believe the micropave trend is becoming less popular, and that includes micropave halos. But halos in general encompass such a wide variety of looks that they'll never be out completely.

This is exactly what I had been thinking, but couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Halos have been around forever, and they will continue to have a hold on jewelry trends into the future. Totally agree About the micropave Halo finding its way out soon.

Exactly.

Based on my experience...
If 1000 people are getting engaged, and thinking of a diamond ring, at least 950 are thinking of a round diamond in a Tiffany style solitaire.
Of the other 50, there's a wide variety of tastes.
Marquise were very popular among the "other 50" for a while, then declined.
But RBC/ solitaire has dominated since OEC was number one- and before that, Old Mine Brilliant in basically round shapes...
I agree with those that say halos won't ever go out of style- because they make sense from a design standpoint.

Yes, agree. Many are thrilled with a round solitaire, but it's not for everyone (me included).

I didn’t think I necessarily wanted a solitaire, I actually originally thought I wanted an eternity instead of a traditional engagement ring. But when I was trying things on, something about that traditional look became really appealing. Can’t explain it. Probably just indoctrination from seeing that depiction so many times over the years

Maybe it is! I dislike how a traditional solitaire looks on me and I also can only tolerate one ring at a time. I'm an odd one.

Does this mean I have to now change my avatar which is my wife’s ring?

I'll always be a solitaire man. A solitaire ring will still be in style 100 yrs from now.

Helllllllllll no.

In my opinion a classic larger halo around a center stone (not pave) will always be in style.

In fact when I think about two of the most classic styles I think a traditional halo and a solitaire!

I think halos are still very much in style. When I got my solitaire my colleague (who has a halo) commented and asked why I did not get a halo. It's pretty mixed in my office. There are solitaires and halos. It's what you what at the end of the day
(and hope you won't get tired of the look).

Halos. I think it has been so prevalent in the last while that, at least to me, its a bit "fuddy duddy" on a ring, especially during these times of hand washing, hand sanitizer, hand cream/lotion to soothe over washed hands, disposable glove wearing...etc...

There's ALOT of surface area to harbor virus and bacteria

I also understand that a halo ring needs a little more "babying"

sometimes, i think they can look nice on other people. But i personally would not wear a halo, micro halo ring.

to me, It can be nice on a pendant or earrings for glam factor...

But what a way to maximize finger coverage if one can't or won't or have already maximized their allotment of funds to get a larger stone.

In the marketplace, there is a HUGE selection of halos, micro halos. Take your pick... 1 row, 2 row 3 row, 4 row, heck according to @Karl_K , he's seen a 15 row...

for me, the only aesthetic exception is with color gemstones or color diamonds.

style is cyclical. so i don't know if they are still in style or not. But it's not a style of ring i would pick for myself.

Yes, haloes are still in style. Most of the rings we make for our wholesale clients are haloes with a very small percentage of solitaires and, surprisingly, 1970s - 1980s vintage ring remakes.

The micropave halo and shank combo is still what we get the most requests for along with round diamond eternity bands. Since I've been with this company, we've made this combo for everything from a .60 CT round center to a 5 CT pear center, and it always looks good. We've also made quite a few hidden haloes.

I could be wrong but I think this isn’t the same @Starfacet you are thinking of....@Starfacet could you please let us know. Thanks.

To answer the question I think halos will always enjoy popularity. Just like the solitaire it is a classic. Trends come and go and return but a beautifully made setting will always be on point. IMO.

Thanks so much missy!

My pleasure! I could be wrong though so let’s see. Different join dates and members can only have one account so I think it’s a different person.

I’m back again to repeat that halos will be around forever, in some form. A little emerald and sapphire eye candy from Her Maj’s expansive vaults...

SWOON! ❤️

I think they’ll always be in style because people have different tastes.

Hi @Big Fat Facets! I just started in July, a happy accident caused by the pandemic. I was laid off from my retail job in March and found this one end of June. I suppose I can talk about who I work for. Many of the other trade members do! I'm in the Sethi Diamonds department of Dr. Gold Jewelry and Diamonds in Addison, TX. I've been a little cautious with posting. I don't want to break the rules!

Welcome! You can attach a link in your tag line if you'd like. Trade members do.

Those are some SPECTACULAR colored stones featuring white diamond surrounds. I especially love old cut surrounds with colored stones. Thank you for sharing!

Thanks!! I figured I could just use my same avatar as before and update my username.

Ha ha, yeah I'm still stuck between asscher and emerald cuts. I suppose I'll get one of each some day but I'd have to get smaller ones. :cry2:

When I think about halo engagement rings, I always picture that gorgeous e-ring from The Great Gatsby and the beautiful Art Deco era. Here we are a hundred years later, and halos are just as gorgeous as ever.

I think so! I’m in my mid twenties and a LOT of my friends have gotten engaged in the last several years with Halos. Actually MOST of them. I got engaged with a classic solitaire and then reset into a halo and now upgraded so I definitely love them! I think whatever you love is what you should get! You are the one who will look at it everyday and really, most people don’t seem to really notice your jewelry so just make sure it’s what you want!

Halo settings will always be a permanent fixture in engagement jewelry although I agree that they seem to be less trendy than they were a few years ago. That said, do what makes you happy!

When I got engaged with a 3 stone with side baguettes my setting style was not popular and I definitely received several comments about the ring being "unique" or "different". Once Meghan Markle got engaged with a 3 stone setting, they seemed to be all the rage and I received a lot more compliments and questions about my setting.

Ultimately, if you plan on wearing your original engagement ring throughout your lifetime it will inevitably appear dated at some point (unless you choose a simple solitaire) so wear something that makes you smile every day!
