Are we allowed to post email for now?

Oh no! I am a long time lurker and rare poster on here, but check LT daily. I am looking to buy a few things and LT made it easier to buy, more trusted.

So. For those of you who had an LT account and had listings, you can still access cached pages. Just google "Loupetroop (your user name)" and your items will pop up under cached. (3 dots to the right, click cache) The individual listing links on that page won't work, but it contains info to get to the page that you can link here. Since I don't remember any of the titles, I had to hunt for them. To get to the contents of a page, once you have a listing title, search "loupetroop (your user name) (a few words in the title)", and that listing will pop up under cached. You can then link it here like your old LT links, assuming you added a way for people to contact you in the description. Hope that helps people who want to save their old listings, having to retype everything sucks!

Mine is here for example, snapshot from 2/8, so fairly recent: Fortekitty's LT listing

Hmmmm
I wonder if the LT creator would be willing to hand it off to someone else that was willing to take it on.
Could it be a group effort or is that unrealistic?
I’m ignorant.
Maybe if it was a group effort it wouldn’t be that taxing on one person to absorb, impatient comments included.

The more effort some individual puts forth in creating their standalone own replacement for LT, the greater possibility someone complains and gets labeled as trade here, I fear.

Ah- this is just my own FOMO rearing, really. Felt I had a chance of snagging LT items. IG=no chance. Pity me!

My day job involves standing up and maintaining computer infrastructure for federal agencies. I personally would have less than zero interest in creating and maintaining a site like LT, and I'm honestly surprised the original maintainer(s) kept it going for as long as he/she/they did.

If we go back through some of what's been said about LT right here on PS - complaints about spam, complaints about lack of enforcement of (arbitrary) listing protocols, complaints about navigating the site, complaints about photo size/number limits, complaints about the ads, complaints about security... The list of complaints is endless. Perhaps there's a nugget of "thanks for anonymously doing all the work to host this thing for us" tossed out every so often, but all in all it must have been an expensive and unappreciated PITA. :???:

Edit - the 502 error just means that for whatever reason, the server hosting LT is not available. That could be because a new version of LT is being deployed, as the message says. It could also be that that's the text the creator had the error page display during a prior upgrade of LT, for the time the server hosting LT was unavailable, and that's simply the same message that's being displayed now that the server is again unavailable (regardless of reason). Computers can go offline without warning for any number of reasons - this may have (IMO likely has) nothing to do with upgrading the LT website.

Until these recent threads I didn’t think the host was a mysterious anonymous he/she/they.
maybe it changed hands from past years discussions.

Maybe it needs to not be anonymous so there’s more acceptance of minor inconveniences with a no charge to use site. Less complaining about LT administration.

Maybe also a ‘LT 411’ sticky thread explaining what goes on behind the curtain and the constraints of keeping a cohesive free to us site up. More patience and gratitude for it.

if not - someone else offered to start one.

what do you need from helpers to make it happen? Maybe if it’s more generally understood of what it entails - it’ll be a better experience for all involved.

All of this. Every time I'd read a complaint, I'd think "they know it's free to use, right? are they seriously complaining about a free service? wait what am i thinking, of course they are. Humans are entitled creatures."

I don't have faith in people. We will find a way to mess it up and complain about something/everything, even if it's free.

thank you x 10000000 for this! Saved my butt from having to re-take a million pics, re-do measurements, etc.

@Rfisher -- I can make it happen. More details to come.

Redwoods if you do wind up hosting a site - please consider posting about setting it up here on PS, and requesting at least some small charge for listing pieces! Even something small, to help offset your costs and to keep those who use it aware of your efforts and invested in helping out where they can! ❤️

I am the least enthusiastic seller, so, never complained.

Would like to say "thank you" to the creator of Loupetroop.

Also, there might be reasons unrelated to upgrading.

Just wanted to know if the creator of the Loupetroop needed any help/support? Life is unpredictable these days.
