I love the look, but I''m afraid to include this color of rose in my table arrangements, as I''ve heard that yellow roses are traditionally for funerals. Any thoughts?

Thanks!

hey!

I did some research for you:
from allweddingideas.com--

* Yellow Roses

In modern culture, yellow roses apparently represent joy, gladness, freedom and contentment. However, in Islamic folklore the meaning is really quite different. It is believed that the yellow rose is a symbol of deceit, treachery, and adultery. Obviously these are quite different interpretations of the same thing, which show the transitional nature of color symbolism and representation theory.

Joy, Gladness, Friendship, Delight, Promise of a new beginning, Welcome Back, Remember Me, and Jealousy, "I care"

Ive always heard they meant jealousy but why would someone give you flowers if they were jealous of you! or vice versa? LOL So I was glad to see all the positive things they mean!

But truly, its your wedding and you really can do anything you want! I was also worried about things being improper and a faux pas but these days really anything goes! The main thing is to do what sings to your heart so you have no regrets :)

Good luck!

Well put...

Thanks for the reply PunchPie. I think I fell in love with the Leonids variation which have a bit of yellow, but not completely:

I went to a wedding last summer and she used yellow roses and yellow daisies. (Her color obviously was yellow) I thought it looked fine. It never knew that yellow roses were meant for funerals. There are no rules. This is your wedding. If you love the look that is ALL that is IMPORTANT!

I had pale-ish yellow roses, ivory roses, and stephanotis in my bouquet, and it looked really nice! I wish I had a pic to show you. I never thought about it looking funereal. Go for whatever you want!

OK, here''s a badly scanned pic of my bouquet.

I always heard that white roses were for funerals, in older days Italians used to lay them in the hands of their dead, also white gardenias are the funeral flower in Japan. I too wouldn''t worry, I have never heard this with yellow roses so have what you want!

Who told you that???

Yellow roses are gorgeous. They are such a light delicate color. They always make me think of springtime!

You go for it!

i thought yellow roses meant friendship? i''ve never heard anything about funerals. if you like it- go for it!

I agree with Lorelei, I always heard WHITE flowers were for funerals. Also, yellow roses have always meant friendship and joy to me, never anything morbid!

In fact, yellow roses are my favorite.

I think all of that is just silly. I heard calla lilies were for funerals too. My flowers were callas, and red and yellow roses. Nobody said, "gosh, aren''t these just for funerals?"

It''s your wedding! Do what you like!

Amber I love yellow roses too and my faves are funnily enough a white rose " Silver Anniversary!"

My family actually runs a funeral home and out of the dozens upon dozens of arrangements that i have seen over the years.. never has there been just a bouquet of yellow roses... if anything i have seen tons of red roses... Then again as morbid as this may sound... i love most of the arrangments that are brought in.. full of life and color.. many very unique flowers.

As much as I love flowers I never buy them for a funeral. I always prefer to make a donation to the charity of the families'' choice, but it is nice to see some at a funeral if that makes sense.

Alot of people do the donation thing, but at larger funerals you should see some of the arrangements... they are really beautiful...

I was just pointing out that the Yellow roses shouldnt be cast as "funeral" flowers... i always though they stood for friendship

.... i could be wrong

I have always wondered where all these connotations come from. I have heard that yellow roses stand for jealousy. How dumb is that? Like you would actually give yellow roses to someone you''re jealous of? So silly!

They smell good, they look good...that''s it! If they''re to mean something...write a card with ''em.

I''ve never heard about yellow roses being for funerals either- honestly, use what you love! Some of these things are so silly

My mother swears that Tiger Lilies are funeral flowers. I always though that yellow roses where given to someone out of freindship. But I am not sure I would turn down a bouquet if given it out of anything.

The only thing I associate with Yellow Roses is Texas, I say do what you want, after all it is your wedding.

I believe that it''s YOUR wedding and you can have whatever flowers you want!!!

I love yellow roses! They don''t hold any sentimental value for me, but I think they would be so beautiful for a wedding! Granted, I haven''t been to that many funerals, but I''ve never, ever noticed that there was an arrangement of yellow roses at one.

I think brides should use flowers as a beautiful, meaningful accent to their special day. If that means breaking some sort of tradition, so be it. It''s you who has to look back on their wedding day and know that you had everything the way YOU wanted it!

I always believed that yellow roses were symbolic of friendship and white is of purest mourning. I believe that to be Southern culture. I do put yellow roses on my close friend''s grave every year- one for each year since he died (1991) , but not for mourning but as a symbol of friendship. I have never heard of yellow roses associated with mourning but we always exchanged yellow roses while he was living so I just continue that on his birthday.

One of my best friends had a June wedding. Her entire bouquet was yellow roses, her favorites (...like sandiegolady!!)

I say do what you want. Do what makes you happy and if yellow roses make you happy...well then, yellow roses it is!

btw, love those leonidas!
