Garysbride- you are so sweet! You copy me all you want! I don''t care! She parted my hair in a halo method and applied a lot of product. Then for the curls she actually used a skinny flat iron. It made the curls last longer. When she did the updo, she actually layered the hair by tying little knots. It made the curls hang just right and she held them in place with loads of bobby pins. Then she stuck the wired orchids in. OUCH! I think I had about 100 bobby pins in my hair, but I didn''t care one bit!

thanks jorman ill have to remeber all this :) I know you said theres like 100 bobby pins in there but it doesnt look like it all it just looks as if the flowers are resting there i loooove it! thanks again!

Both. I wore the veil for the ceremony and some of the pictures, then took it off (well to be exact, the wind and my BM''s mother took it off half way through the pictures LOL, but I was planning on taking it off before the reception anyway!).

I was both. I had a formal updo and wore the veil for the tea ceremony, then I took it off when I got annoyed by dealing with the long veil halfway through our picture. I didn''t wear the veil for both receptions, but I had a half up-half down hairdo for the 2nd reception.

As to why I wore a veil, I think it "looks better". j/k. May be because I was on theknot seeing tons of gurls having cathedral veil and I fell in love - it just look so elegant with the simple line. There''s not religious or any other better reasons than that for me.

Oh I forgot that I also wore a veil for our casual Vegas ceremony. That was me trying to look more bridal since I was wearing a short white sundress.

I was adamant about not having a veil .... till I tried on one! For me, it just completes the look of being a bride. As JCJD says, when else in your life will you ever wear one?
Total ditto- last Sunday, exactly two weeks before the wedding, I started thinking about veils. Today I went to a bridal store and tried one on and suddenly, I felt like a bride! Before it was just me in an (off) white dress. I''m totally converted and I bought a veil that they happened to have in stock and I happened to love for (gulp!) $215. Almost more than I paid for my dress!! I don''t care, I think it totally completes the look and I''m so glad I decided on a veil. Can''t wait to wear it!

Ugh! I''m definately NOT a veil bride. Never wanted one. When a pushy sales lady at a bridal shop basiclaly forced one on me I freaked out the second I saw myself in the mirror. Felt like I was choking LOL.
32.gif
I literally had a physical reaction like a panic attack. hehehehe. But i''m not very traditional
31.gif
Then I tried on a birdcage veil cause I liked vintage things but I highly recommend taking pictures of yourself with one on. As much as i liked the idea it just looked wierd on me in pictures. So I''m definately hair. LOVE Jorman''s hair - I''m thinking loose waves too but something a bit more formal because I''m a winter evening bride.

I am a hair bride.
My hair is 31 inches long and I did not grow it so carefully to cover it up. Besides, why pay the money for a profesional hairdo if I am just going to hide it.
Anyway, my sweetheart is especially attracted to my hair, so if I want the wow factor coming down the isle then that's the way to do it.
I am doing it half back with curls and a twist that becaomes a twist bun in the back.

I was always going to be a tiara hair down bride, now i''m a birdcage veil bride. Just for the ceremony and pics, the rest of the night i have a sparkly hair comb. This is the veil i had made, i took off the bow and added a small feather decorative piece! Pictures coming soon!

A question to the long haired gals...I''m just curious: How long is too long? At what point will you cut it?

I don''t mean to be rude, but I''m asking because I recently saw at a tradeshow a lady with hair down past her knees. My colleague openly stared and when I told him to quit staring, he said that people who do "things like that" are asking to get stared at.

Honestly, I thought it was too much, bordering on icky. Maybe it was this lady in particular, but her hair looked fuzzy and damaged. I wondered if she really thought it looked good. So at what point does your hair go from luxuriously long to over the top?

And to answer the original poster: I don''t know yet. I wavering, but I think I will be a hair bride.

My sister has 2 girl friends from high school, and for religions reasons they could not cut their hair more than an inch or two at a time. Their hair was down to their knees or longer, and they also could not wear pants. I don''t know if I ever knew what denomination they were, but I think they were Christian.....

TG--

This is really a question that I have pondered a lot lately! I told my husband that I DON''T want to be one of those
older ladies with scraggly hair that is too long, but I really do like my hair better long. He didn''t know what I was talking about, but I was talking about the woman you described.

I think you answered the question yourself when you described her hair as fuzzy and damaged.
Long hair can be stunning if it is healthy and shiny. Fuzzy and damaged hair needs some attention.

I am older (yikes... 38!!!) and so I worry about not having appropriate hair for my age, now that the lines are really starting to show, I question everything (clothes, makeup, hair...)

Hah! Tybee, you are right on!

I''ve always preferred myself with longer hair too, but now that I''m mid-30s, I''m starting to wonder if it looks a little not-so-good on me anymore.
33.gif
I agree that long hair can be SO beautiful (again, to use jorman as an example!), but only if the hair is healthy. Long hair that is just long for the sake of being long ... well, that I don''t get.

(FYI, I think my long hair issue goes back to when I was little - like five years old - and my Mom got me a short haircut, and someone said what a cute little BOY I was!)

OK, back to the topic of veils
2.gif

Tybee, your hair can be worn like that for many years to come, I think. It''s pretty and on the longer side, but not excessively long by any stretch of the imagination. Many people into their 40''s wear their hair that long. Take a look at a lot of news personalities...they do wear their hair longer and longer and I think it looks professional and good.

My hair is as long as Tybee''s and will probably be almost midback by the time my wedding rolls around. I''ve already told FI that I am cutting it off once the wedding is over. I like change and my hair grows like weeds!

I am still trying to figure out my wedding hair...I love Jorman''s do, but it won''t work for me. I remember seeing a pic of brightspot''s hair that I thought would work with my hair and be great for my beach wedding.

Travelinggal- I often ask myself that same question. How long is too long?

I will be 27 on August 13th and I have a professional position in the construction/development world. I already face the challenge of being a girl in a man''s world and on top of that I look really young. Since moving to California and this job I have been asked:

-What High School do I go to, while volunteering for Katrina victims.
-If I am the new intern at my job- this lasted for months.
-What year am I in college?
-Am I old enough to get married?
-And twice in one day I was asked if I was 19. NINETEEN!

I know that I will eventually embrace the fact that people confuse me for a freshman in college, but I do wonder if I should cut the hair.

I typically wear my hair down, straight with a little flip of curl at the ends. It is about 2-3 inches past my bra. I always say I want to cut it, but my husband says, "No! It''s so pretty! Not many people can have hair like yours." and I say "OKay"

My face is very round, so I need a longer cut in general, but me thinks it might be time to snippity snip!

Jorman!
Don''t!
I love your hair!
(okay... it''ll grow, and you''ll look great with whatever hair you have, but that was my instinct talking
20.gif
)

I trim it ever few weeks so I do not have dry ends. I also dust it which means I look through the hair and cut out split ends. My hair is very healthy and I take very good care of it. It is extremely thick and I will let it keep growing as long as it looks healthy.
This is me with my future f. You can see how long and healthy my hair is. The second picture is Irish actress Fionnula Flanagan who has thick white hair which I want when I am much older. She wore it much longer for the others but I couldn''t get a good picture.

Hey TG,

I was pretty pleased with my hairstyle. It was cool on the beach & didn't blow around much & I don't think it looked too formal with the flowers. It didn't get frizzy & stayed in place pretty well, but there was a mysterious dangling bobbypin that I had to Photoshop out of a lot of my pictures!
20.gif
I'd suggest that you appoint a friend to keep an eye on your hair to make sure nothing has fallen out during the reception!

Let me know if you want more pics of my do for your stylist when the time comes & thanks so much for the compliment.

BrightSpot, I would love some more pics as soon as you can get them. I was going to do a search for your moniker here and find them that way, but if you have extras, that would be great as I will save them to my files. It really was the perfect do!

Thanks!!!!

Interesting... this is the second place I''ve seen a discussion about ''how long is too long/icky?''

I guess my hair could be considered ''too long'' but I have never had anyone tell me so. I think it depends a lot on how the person wears it (mine is usually up in a bun with a hairpin) and I never wear it down on a ''bad hair day''.

Also, it depends on the texture, I think. If it''s a huge ''froof'' of hair, probably not so attractive, but I''ve got the kind of hair that usually shows up on cheesy romance novels and fantasy covers.
20.gif

At least, I think so! My FF loves my hair-- it''s very striking and unusual, and he says there is something very romantic and intimate about me letting my hair down when most people just see it up.

Well, if you insisit, TG...

Oh, and I was a hair bride.

Thanks Bright spot...that helps a lot. I was thinking of pulling my hair back lower, but I just like the relaxed, just polished nature of your do. Also, what kind of flowers did you have in your hair? They are perfect!!

ETA - also do you have a close up of the back? It's just fab!

I wanted to chime in on the long hair issue. I am 46 and have a very round moon face, so for me, wearing my hair too mushorter than is right now is not a good choice for me cuz it is not flattering. My hair is wavy/curly, of medium texture, not coarse at all. I take excellent care of it and get trims every 6-8 weeks. I have long layers cut into it which is helpful for movement and has made it easier to care for overall. My hair measured when wet at its longest point is probably down to my
bra strap in mid back or just above that. Since it is curly and now with this excessive heat here in CA, I wear it curly so it is shorter than that when it is dry, it looks like it is a tad past my shoulders, shorter by my face. I love my hair. It is sexy on its own and my hubby goes ga-ga when it is wild, curly and loose. I tend to like to blow it out and smooth it to soft curves around my face moreso in the fall, winter and spring. The only down side of curly hair like mine is that some days its more lazy waves and it may not be the same all over so it looks unkempt, so I have to do a plan B for a hair style that looks nicer, but that''s ok.

I feel that sometimes women become too attached to the length of their hair and not as committed to the overall health of it. You have to trim it once in a reasonable while to conquer split ends, get back some shape and style to the hair and to achieve a sense of balance to your overall look. Hair that doesn''t get this kind of maintenance--regardless of texture, type or length--is not healthy and not worth keeping excessively long. I like bouncy, healthy, shiny tresses. Long enough to put up in a pony tail, but short enough to not be an issue if I sit or go to the bathroom! Yuck!

I have a nice weave in my hair and have had for over a year and due to regular visits to my hairstylist, sulfate free moisturizing hair shampoo and amazing conditioner and hair masques, my hair looks pretty good, I am told.

If I were to be planning to get married at this time in my life, I would wear it half up and half down. I wore my hair totally up for my renewal in the Caribbean and I didn''t really care for the overall effect. My hubby--oddly enough--loved the change cuz it was elegant and different, but it wasn''t really me.

Oh and if I was a first time bride and the wedding was casual, I would wear it with flowers. Formal? Definitely a veil for the wedding and with a tiara or other hair bling for the reception. Just me. I have seen many, many types of hair adorations for many weddings but for me, the veil just does it for the ceremony.

TG, I''m glad that helped. Unfortunately, the shot I posted is the only one I have of the back of my head. (We used the island photog & only got about 75 pro pictures total.) Maybe you can try to enlarge it? Aside from the clump in the back & the strand in the front which came loose, my hair was totally out of my way, which was nice. (No hot, sticky or windblown hair on the beach..)

The flowers were dendrobium orchids. They were easy to pin in place & held up well in the heat. I thought they were a nice size too & they were super easy to come by in Jamaica.

I originally hated the idea of a veil, but I changed my mind, for two reasons. 1, my dress is not super-traditional, but we are having a catholic wedding and I wanted to make it a bit more conservative for the ceremony. 2, I have a tattoo on my upper back that will be covered with makeup, and the veil will help sheild it just a bit during the ceremony, along with my hair which I am leaving half down. But I am only wearing it for the ceremony, not the reception.

The dress shop gal was pushing for a cathedral length veil with my dress, but I think it''s a bit much, so I''ll end up with an elbow length, single layer. Just enough to look more "bridal" but not so much to distract from my hair in front (worn on the back of my head, not too high, so it''s not that visible from the front).

here''s a link to my dress on the model, so you know what I''m talking about. http://www.maggiesottero.com/dress.aspx?keywordText=mia+lynette&searchId=2144370933&keywordType=any&page=0&pageSize=8&style=J130

I think a cathedral veil would have overpowered the dress.

Personally, there is nothing that says "bride" more than a veil. Someone else said it really, really well......the dress was just an off-white dress until I added a veil. THEN I felt like a bride.

I think many of the pics looks beautiful, and many of the girls who''ve posted looked gorgeous.....but for me, it''s very noticeable that something is missing in the pictures, and they don''t seem as bridal to me.

I can understand why some folks feel funny about them; when I first tried a few simple tulle ones on, they felt more like a hunchback that didn''t complement me at all. But when I found a veil that was weighted with a bit of lace on the edge and hung nicely.......that was the a-ha moment for me.

I''m going to wear my mother''s veil. I''m going to take off one of the two cathedral tiers and one of the two shoulder-length blushers and add a mantilla-style lace edge to it. I want to have my hair done up or half-up and have the veil pinned with a comb. I''m probably going to bustle it or take it off for the reception...

I was a both girl too, I had a veil for the ceremony and gardenia''s in my hair for the reception. Here are pics of both :)

ivanadiamond: yours is still my favorite wedding dress on this board! love it. not to hijack-(sorry)-but, what type of flowers did you have in your bouquet? gardenia''s too? thanks.

Ah thanks Jcrow! I feel the same way about your dress, especially the bustle

. My bouquet was all gardenia, the smell was intoxicating. I didn''t want to put it down. My florist ended up putting some shells in it as well. Sorry to hijack too, here are some pics, hope they turn out alright in size.
