How long do you guys leave decorations up?

I leave everything up until New Years Day (or.. day after if I''m ''tired'')... It''s like an extra week of pretty lights :D
We have a neighbor that doesn''t take them down until March!!! Cracks me up. They have little kids, but come on March??? We place bets every year as to how long it will take them to take them down....

There is a radio station here that will make the call, saying, Lady do you know the amount of energy your lights are using and it''s wayyyyy past Christmas???? Your neighbors have asked us to call, it''s almost Easter, please take them down... OMG, too funny to listen to those calls.
She leaves the lights on til March ???

I''ve seen the occasional wreath left on a door, but lights on the house - lit. That''s a lot.

Update: my mom is giving me her 6'' prelit tree! She mentioned last year that she was going to get rid of it because she can''t stand wrestling with it...I emailed her today to ask if she still had it and wanted me to take it off her hands, and she said yes! Yay! The cheapest one I''ve been able to find online was $140 so I just saved myself a nice chunk of change!

I take my decorations down the week after New Year''s. By then I''m ready to re-arrange furniture and get things back to my regular decor. I decorate early enough to be over it right after the holidays.

I was able to get our 6'' christmas tree for 75% off last year! It''s pre-lit and I think I only paid $30 for it after the discount

Yay for good deals!

We generally wait until the day after Thanksgiving for the outside lights and the tree goes up that day or weekend. The weather has been so nice lately that a lot of people around us have been decorating outside, which is a great idea if you want to avoid the cold weather, but my husband prefers to wait until after Thanksgiving :)

In the past I always waited until the day after Thanksgiving to begin my Christmas decorating. But honestly, it was always stressful to be decorating, shopping, entertaining, etc...

I will hopefully have my tree up by Monday or Tuesday.

I was seeing Christmas decorations up in stores before Halloween - I couldn''t believe it.

Have you been to Cornelius Nurseries on Dairy Ashford in Houston? They have an awesome Christmas Shop and that''s where we get most of our decorations. DH is the manager there.

We used to go all out decorating inside and out, but since our parents have all passed away and my health is really bad, we''ve not really done much of anything. Last year, we bought some of those handmade wooden decorations and put them in the front yard. DH fussed at me for even suggesting we go look at them, but he loved them and actually picked out the ones we''re using.

My Great Aunt Helen leaves her tree up year round. Just plugs it in when the time comes!

I love Christmas and leave my nativity display up year round.

Lori, I haven''t been by there in ages! What a great idea! The Cornelius on 1960 W used to have a great Christmas department - but I haven''t been over there this year.

Our outdoor decorations don''t take too long to put up. Maybe 1/2 a day - if all the lights on the garlands work. Last year I sat on a balcony and literally cut lights out of the garlands.
For some reason being in the attic all year does a number on the lights. Every year I have to replace a few strands. Wreaths go up all the french doors and a large wreath on the front door. The door is flanked by 2 little trees in urns - so nothing too elaborate, but it does take some time.

I always put out a few decorations Thanksgiving night just for the fun of it. Then the day after Thanksgiving and that weekend we put up the tree and the rest of the decorations. I usually take down the tree on New Year''s Day but this year we are leaving for vacation on Dec. 27. So I think we will take the decorations down on the 26th because I don''t want to leave them out with the cats. Too much for them to get into.

nope not until the first week of December.

Bebe,

The Cornelius on 1960 burned down a few weeks ago. They aren''t going to rebuild at that location.

Lori

I put ours up after Thanksgiving, and take them down the week after New Years.

My husband used to work for a property management company, and the association for one of them had rules that all decorations had to come down by Jan 6th. DH called one gentleman to ask him to take them down, and was told that they were for Chinese New Year. DH looked up the actualy traditional decorations and called the guy back to let him know that while they would be more than happy to let him celebrate Chinese New Year, red and green lights and Santa''s weren''t on the list of traditional decorations.
